Garage Built Boat

Was debating if I started a thread here as I’m already keeping up with Instagram and a microskiff forum but figure I’ve been a loyal OB follower so might as well see if ppl are interested. If it doesn’t gain traction I’ll probably just keep up on microskiff and insta.
Long story short I’ve been wanting to build a chris Morejohn poling skiff for over five years now. If you don’t know Chris Morejohn is considered by most the godfather of poling skiffs and he designed and built all the original hells bay boats.
Two years ago I bought a set of his plans and a TD poster here was supposed to help me modify a few things in cad before getting my buddy to cnc cut the stations. That drug it’s feet until I finally said screw it I’ll cut the mods in later.
What you see is progress I’ve made over about 2.5 weeks.
Boat will be 3/4” divincyel h80 foam core with 3 layers of basalt glass on the outside and 3 layers of 10oz eglass on the inside. All epoxy resin.
I added a tunnel and added some height to the transom so I can put a jackplate and low water pickups and run some pretty shallow Texas flats.
Boat should ideally float 6” empty. And likely 8” once loaded. We will see about all that.
I’ve got an old 50hp 2 stroke merc that I may throw on the back or if it comes to the end I may buy a 60hp tohatsu.
Thinking I’m going to build it side console but I’m not sold yet.
Pellegrini Marine Electronics cutting my jigs. Anybody in southeast La needing any marine electroncis work should really check them out. Go look up their Instagram page have a decent amount of work they’ve done on there.
Day 1 of hanging jigs.
Finished up hanging jigs, keel, sheerflange, and cut the tunnel in on day 2.

Bad arse. Which plans are you building? Conch?
Posted on 7/15/23 at 10:51 pm to Timmayy
Badass indeed. Looking forward to following your build.

Beryllium 17.5.
Doing 17.5’ so it fits in my garage as I’m building. If it was 18.5 it wouldn’t fit with the sheerflange or if it did I wouldn’t be able to walk around the bow.

Want to see your finished product too

I haven't seen the final plans but is there no chine at all?

The cutouts from the Transom through station 5 are chines
There will also be piling strikes that go fro. About station 5 forward that will add a little stability.
I plan on picking Chris’ brain for adding 1/4” winglets to make the chine a little pocket which I think may add some stability.
This is what the bottom will look like. Sans tunnel and winglets.

This is bad arse
Tackling a DIY glass boat build takes some nuts. Can't wait to see the finished product.
Again,
I'm getting ready to do a console and T top and I'm scared to start

Fine 14 months

Interesting. I will follow along.

Are you Leroy Jethro Gibbs?

Ive got a side console Ankona Copperhead. After 10 years with it, I will never own another center console skiff. If you do go this route, the only downside is you lose the dry storage. Also, I have recently repowered with a 50HP 4 stroke Tohatsu and love it.
Good luck with the build, I will definitely be following your progress.
Not mine, but same boat.

Please keep posting, this kinda shite is literally the best thing in the OB!

Side consoles are cool but I find I much prefer the offset center console boats I’ve been on.

For a 17.5’ I’d think side console is better but it’s prob just a preference thing.

Looking forward to this, I've been wanting to build a boat for a while but life keeps getting in the way. I built a pirogue a few years ago and enjoyed the hell out of the process.
