Very nice. That thing will be bullet proof. Good call on the H80.

That is awesome, you sure you didn't want to put a jet drive in it? Where are you building it at?

Even in the little stuff my friend. Decking material choices, wiring harnesses, pics of the hardware/fittings you decide on. Promise there are a bunch of us interested.

Spent some time yesterday and got the transom coosa cutout and hung.
Got all the edges painters taped to help prevent the gorrilla glue from sticking to the jigs. It’s funny how long something as simple as that can take.
I’m trying to figure out how anal I am going to be when fitting the foam pieces together. For instance how worried about an 1/8” gap between bevels of foam do I have to be that will later be filled with thickened epoxy. So far my ocd is making me real worried about it but I need to keep it in Check because sometimes I can mess it up worse.
The transom coosa is cut for a 24” motor well. My motor well is where the bilge pump will be and because of the tunnel a 3” wide bilge pump needs to fit on the side of it. Tunnel is about 15.25” wide.
The transom “tombstone” is 8” tall as it sits but will almost certainly cut it down to 5”. The tunnel height is right at 5” so it will maintain a 20” transom.
As far as center vs side console I’m almost certain I won’t do center console after getting a better feel for the size but that may be a little tough to really visualize until the boat is flipped. I’m a 6’2 260lb guy and don’t see driving from the center of the boat comfortable if someone is trying to sit next to me.

just a newbie question about the garage build. How heavy is it right now? Im wondering how you will move it around as the weight increases.
Posted on 7/17/23 at 12:12 pm to LanierSpots
Some people build the strongback on casters to be able to move around. I opted not to in order to help make sure the strongback is as solid as possible.
The strongback itself has some heft to it and is imovable in its current form. The jigs alone weigh atleast 500lbs.
Once the exterior of the hull is glassed and faired i could put some casters on to move out of the garage.
Once the hull is popped off the jigs it can be flipped and set back into the strongback. At that point the hull should probably be around 200lbs on its own.

Have you been happy with the Ankona? They've shuffled their model line recently but I'm thinking of buying one in a year or two. I've never been able to look at one up close for build quality, detail, etc.

Where did you get the coosa?

How are planning to make the hull surface? Plywood strips?

There is a fiberglass supplier in Houston so I was able to buy locally. I’m not sure if it’s coosa brand or space age brand. The guy said it’s coosa but it seemed more likely to be slave age just based on pricing. It’s 20lb density 3/4”. I will double it to be 1 1/2” thick in side of the motor well and likely still put an 1/8” alum plate for backing on either side.
Rather than wood stripped it will be 3/4” pvc foam stripped.

I have guys driving from SE Texas to buy coosa from me around twice a month.

sweet build, I thought hard about building one, but I know myself and know i would rush too much of it and it would come out looking like a 4 year olds drawing. Ended up finding a deal on a Man-o-war skiff. I would go with a center console, but as skinny as possible. Tall enough to countersink GPS, but as narrow as possible. have a drink box in the console as well. Having everything build in makes for a cleaner boat.

I should have called to quote the coosa from you. I was in La picking up my jigs anyway.

We have an office in the town where Coosa is made. NO ONE can touch our price. Zero freight involved in my price and we sell them some of the glass in the product.

Looks like a fun project. I've been wanting to build a 20ft bay boat, but it'll likely never happen. Glassing the exterior hull isn't too bad. The fairing process is the hardest part. Then when you get her flipped and off the jig, things start to get much slower building and glassing inside the hull as well.
Earlier in the thread you showed a pic on a hull in one of those portable blow up paint booths. Is that yours? If so how do you like it? I'm sick of bugs and dirt treating my MS1 clear coats on my wood work like an aircraft carrier so I was looking into those.
