Looked this up on Google Maps. That street is a cul de sac that backs up to the part of the interstate where Carlee stopped. You can easily walk to there.

I apologize if other maps have already been posted. I found a map on a news article. And I checked google maps using 459 and other street names from this thread out of curiosity to see the area where this hoax took place.
These match up pretty well. Someone from the Hoover area can likely provide better insight or tell me if these aren’t correct.
Looks like a very thin line of woods between where she parked and the neighborhood right behind it. Same street names mentioned in this thread…

So here's my educated guess on how it all went down:
- Something happened causing her to want to either do something dramatic or to get away. Maybe something happened at work, some drama with her ex-boyfriend, etc. She recruits somebody (Sister-in-law?) to help her out and they agree on a plan.
- Carlee drives to that predetermined specific spot on the interstate. That explains why she drove slowly on the shoulder all the way to that mile marker. They pick that spot because it's easy to get to that neighborhood.
- She makes the call to report the kid and to her SIL, fakes the abduction, gets rid of all of her trackable items, and then heads through the trees to Atkins Trimm Rd.
- She's picked up and taken to the Red Roof Inn for some reason (17 year old hookup, hideout, etc.)
- WBRC releases the traffic cam showing the whole thing and pretty much blows a hole in the narrative.
- Story is now making national news, there are search parties, etc. Carlee realizes this has gotten way out of hand and much bigger than she ever anticipated.
- Someone who knows she's at the Red Roof Inn decides to call the family to tell her she's there. Family shows up and either tells her she has to come home or is unable to see her. Either way, she knows she's been found out.
- Carlee gets dropped off a few blocks from the house and pretends she is fleeing the kidnappers as she arrives home.
- She's taken to UAB where they find out not a thing has happened to her.
Probably some holes in that timeline but that's generally what I think happened.
