Agree. Just based on his solo work, I think I prefer the 80’s Clapton over the 70’s Clapton.

Seems Clapton isn't god anymore since he's anti-vax.

No Reason to Cry

Always been partial to this one (along with Backless, 461 Ocean Boulevard & obviously Layla).

Unpopular opinion, but I think he’s overrated. Layla is a phenomenal song, but there isn’t a catalog to choose from after that unless they are remakes of other people’s songs.

Saw him in concert - and while I appreciate his skill on guitar - every song became a tedious 10 minute jam session.

Same here. I like him just fine but the thought that he was ever considered a top guitar player has always confused me.

There's a good documentary on him. His history is just so impressive. Gets success with the Yardbirds, but doesn't like the type of music they're playing becuase he's a blues lover at heart. He voluntarily leaves the group and personally offers up Jimmy Paige and then Jeff Beck to replace him. Does he go into obscurity when he get's replaced in a very popular band by two GIANTS of guitar? No, he goes to John Mayall's group and is so respected, they put his name on the album and it's huge amongst guitarists. Then he forms Cream.....'nuff said there. Then Blind Faith...Derek and the Dominos.... I mean so many great things one guy is a part of. George Harrison requested him to do the solo on what is probably Harrison's greatest contribution to the Beatles. Yeah, he doesn't play the EVH type solos, but his feel, taste, etc. is just so damned good. That's not to take away from the skill he has/had.
