Just turned into the baseball draft that I don’t really understand. What are all these high school kids getting drafted? How does that affect college when kids are drafted out of high school?

More opportunity for high school kids to play in college. Also, being drafted out of high school isn’t a guarantee you’ll sign and skip college.

They decide if they want to go to college or sign a contract. My buddy was signed by the Astros after high school. He was supposed to go to college but they gave him a fat deal so he signed.

He ended up being a bust it seems. He probably should have just gone to college. But being from texas I understand why he did it.

You can always go back to school later if they are willing to write a large enough check.

Kids who are draft eligible have two choices, enter the draft straight out of HS or go to college for 3 years then be eligible to re-enter the draft.

Baseball actually got this right.

Should follow the NHL model. Draft eligible from 18-20 years old. Team holds rights for two years. Players can still go to college and the team holds their rights.

NBA should adopt that system too.

Can’t they still forgo their D1 college and go play for at a lower level like Juco and jump back in the draft the next year or 2 in lieu of waiting the 3 years?

You definitely used to be able to do that. Had a guy that was 2 years behind me in high school that was committed to LSU and drafted in the 18th round by the brewers but the brewers wouldn’t meet his number so he went to Delgado. The brewers came back and offered him like 8th round money right before the next draft before they lost their rights to him and he entered that draft.

Josh booty football career might've turned out differently if he went to college football first.
