Picked up a whole chicken from Rousse's yesterday to spatchcock and grill Sunday. Smelled kind of funky while cutting it. Use by date was the 18th, packaged on the 3rd. I checked the smell this morning, smelled ok. Should I grill it?

I’ve had similar experiences with chicken from said grocer. Not foul but off-smelling.

I just stopped buying meat from there altogether

I've found that meat in that cryovac packaging can sometimes get a bit of an off smell. It's packaged in that vacuum sealed plastic in its own blood and other juices, so this can happen from time to time.

And I don't care what "Professional Food Handlers" say, I always rinse off my chicken out of the packaging and use paper towels to dry it off prior to cutting and seasoning.

If the used by date is July 18th, then it should be good to go since you're 10 days out from then.

Don’t eat that nasty chicken from Roussse’s. Seriously you want to play with food poisoning? The $10-15 you save isn’t worth it.

Is it turning kind of gray? Then no. Packaged chicken can smell funky, it could either be some preservative or build up of byproduct. I would also treat good by dates with a massive grain of salt. Those dates aren't really regulated, plus it's operating under the assumption the product was properly stored and handled.

The Rouses on Drusilla is absolutely terrible about this. It’s probably the worst Rouses in their entire portfolio. Absolutely trash.

Bruh, if there is ANY doubt, or it's smelling weird, esp 10 days out, I'd say don't risk it.

Really?? I've probably bought over 1000 lbs. of leg quarters, split breasts and whole chickens from Rouses over the years and have never had any issue with it.

The only time I had a problem with meat from there was about 5 years ago when I got a single pork butt. When I got it home and cut open the packaging I immediately knew it was off, and not just a little off.

Headed back to the store with the pork, talked to the manager and got a new butt that I cut the packaging open in the store to do the "nose test" and it was fine.

Manager said that some people put stuff in their baskets, then for some reason decide to not buy it and just put it on a shelf somewhere in the store instead of returning it back to the refrigerated areas where they got them. An employee comes along, sees it and brings it back to where it belongs without thinking it could have gone off due to being left out for a while.

Don’t worry about it, chicken smells fowl sometimes.

FDA does not recommend it but the reality is, if you want to wash the funk off, not a big deal.

I do not rinse off any meat but I have funky chicken, pork and red meat hands all the time in prep

No, but since you seem to have reading comprehension skills that are lacking, I specifically said "chicken" in my reply.
