My choice would be Dr. Jon Sweet. I hired him as my band director when I was a principal and since then he went into college bands at Kentucky and was top assistant at Purdue the past 4 years. He just took the head band director job at Washington State University. He's one of the best as designing halftime performances and does clinics all over the country. He won't come as he & his wife just moved to Pullman, but I tried to convince him. That Purdue band was very good and had some very good shows. Their show at the Citrus Bowl was excellent

They’ll almost certainly just promote from within. LSU doesn’t care enough about Tiger Band to actually go out and conduct a nationwide search to find the best candidate like they should do

Band went to shite when it was out under the music department. That won't change.

Hopefully they stop his sped up rendition of The Star Spangled Banner
When did they start doing that?

This all happened when Jindal slashed state funding. All departments in campus started cannibalizing each other. SoM wanted the GBFTL money under their purview so they could rearrange the deck chairs. Tiger Band has not been elite since then. Then Roy King, then Linda leaves, etc. etc.
Yep. It was essentially a cash grab by the School of Music, and it happened under Alleva and F*King Alexander's watch. Once Frank Wickes retired and Linda left, the steal was on. Roy King tried to hang on for a few years, but when he stood up to Damon Talley and Todd Queen, they got him fired.

Most certainly. Talley and the School of Music won't give up Tiger Band without a fight, even though he despises it. They'll promote from within or hire another puppet they can control.

They need to make a call to the human Jukebox.

LSU’s version of Right Above It is so good. It’s their best song

But will the new person play "Louie Louie"?

Seems the thing President Tate would do given his oratorical style at public events.

Hopefully Scotty makes a home run hire here!
Scott's first homerun move would be to get the band out of the Music Dept. and into the Athletic Dept.

Hopefully the new director will start the Tiger Rag with the band above the oak tree on victory hill. The last several years it has moved future and further down hill and does not have the same effect. I even spoke to Dr. Jones about this 2 years ago and it went in one ear and out the other! I have been tailgating right there for the last 25 years and it would be nice to have the traditional starting place again.

Bring Corey Spurlin home from Auburn. He has vastly improved their band while the GBFTL has been in decline.

We've been missing that Latin flare the Tiger band is known for.
Who can forget Pictures of Spain?

He would be my first call, but it won't happen because the School of Music doesn't want Tiger Band to be good.

If he could somehow do this, I have no doubt that he would hire a great new director. TAF needs to get involved somehow.

As a TB Alum I'm been deeply embarrassed of the sound and halftime marching performance. Opposimg SEC bands have smelled blood in the water.
Posted on 7/7/23 at 10:44 pm to LSUBanker
I can’t comment on the precision of the marching because I’ve never been in a marching band and rarely focus on it unless it’s pregame where they’re supposed to march in a straight line.
But the halftime shows have been so much more entertaining than when I was in college (‘15).
That Latin flare bullshite brought nothing. I do think they need a lot more brass tho
