Garage door help

so my wife and I bought our 1st home in December, and the house originally had a carport that was enclosed to add a garage door.
fast forward to a week ago, and the tension spring pulled out of the board it was mounted to - apparently whoever did the mounting of the door, they only mounted the spring with 1 bolt.
so the board it was mounted to is damaged, and I am thinking of running a 2x8 or something across the area it pulled out of, and mounting it to several of the wall supports, and then mounting the spring to the 2x8 - this way there is ample support for the door.
my question is if the tension spring has to be centered on the door track to the motor, or if it can be mounted off center and still be good.

Tension springs are no joke. I would contact a professional like Gulf State Overhead doors. They’ll be able to provide assistance.

You’re playing with fire, get a professional to do it. Not worth the risk one bit.

I’ve messed with garage door springs one time. Even made my own sketchy arse winding rods out of 1/2” rebar. I got the job done but not gonna lie, I was terrified the whole time. It’s crazy how much tension those springs are under.

Call one of the local shops that install them. They should be able to answer your question.

Hell I’ll re roof a house cut down a tree in a wind storm pour a concrete slab but garage door anything nope nope nope nope I don’t know why they are very simple nah I’ll pay someone

If you call a professional, you'll probably surprised how cheap they are. I've had springs replaced twice and IIRC it was under $200 each time. Well worth it to me to not risk playing around with those springs.
