I am looking to buy a mini drone for my son and myself to play with. I would like for it to have a camera. I know absolutely nothing about drones. Can someone give me some ideas on a decent beginner drone? Thanks.

No clue. Under $500? However, if I can get a decent one for less I am all ears.

I recently got a DJI Mini 2 SE for $340. Have enjoyed it and taken some really nice pictures and videos. The camera is pretty high quality for a drone that price.

Was given a Mavic Mini refurb. Hear good things about them, testing it out this evening.

DJI for ease of use and because you can find parts pretty easily.

Amazon link

I got the DJI mini2 combo with the 4k camera - comes with a case, 3 batteries, multiple spare parts and rotors. Everything you’ll ever need. $650 but worth the extra money. The 3-battery charger is a must. I hit trees on the reg and bust it up pretty good, but it just keeps flying. Huge range and height capabilities, and returns home if you lose it or if the battery is low. Takes incredible photos from way up.

Another vote for the Mavic mini. Awesome picture, easy to fly for the amateur enthusiast. And good price point as well.

Check amazon for some in your price range and get the least expensive with high ratings.

Cold truth is its a novelty. After a couple months its going into a closet. Mine cost around $900 a couple years ago. After playing with it a couple dozen times it went into the closet. Used it twice since then and had to re-learn the controls.

TigrrDad,

Where do you live, I’m loaded up and wanting to ride. Sweet looking soil you have there.

As for the drone, I have the DJ Mini 2 also. We use it at our camp to evaluate our work and have used it to follow groups of guys riding our bike course. I think I paid about $550, but I got a load of extras with it.

I’m in Folsom. My son and his kids and usually a friend or two are out here riding just about every weekend. About half my track is hard packed red mud and the other half is beautiful black soil. The past month of almost no rain is turning it all into a powdery dust bowl lately though.

Be sure to read your regs, I had this great idea a few years ago, but upon researching it's already not legal to use a drone to hunt or scout in TN.

In general, there are tons of options for OP under $500. Just find one with good feedback on battery life and range

I spent years racing MX, wrenched in mid 90’s for a Pro rider, then went back to racing about 2009 with LACC with my oldest son. Youngest son started in late 2011, then moved to expert in 2014 through 2018. My daughter met her husband through LACC and he is a 3 time overall champion.

The sport has been good to me, injuries and all. I still throw a leg over a bike every now and then.

Only a Moto guy would notice the track in the picture before he noticed anything else! ??

I’m in Denham Springs myself.

We started racing when I was in my mid-30s and my son was around 8. Did it for 6 years til neck surgery forced me to quit. My grandson is about to turn 5 and has been on a PW for a couple years now, and his half-brother is 10 and on an 85. My son still plays around on a 125. Built the track as a training ground for the kids, so most of the jumps are small and safe. Threw in a couple decent tables for the bigger bikes. Some days we’ll have 8-10 bikes out here, mostly PW50s, 85s, and adults on pit bikes. It’s about on the scale of an arenacross track but not as cramped. Think we’re pushing about 4/10ths of a mile now in total length. As a pit bike track, I don’t think there’s a better one around in this area. You’re welcome to join us any Sunday we’re riding.

Do y’all ride any trails? I have about 7 miles of trails on my place in Mississippi. It’s very hilly and Sandy soil. These are Moto trails through the woods. Most spots are 8-10 ft wide.

I have a small course for my grandson who is 5, but plan to make something a little bigger for him.

I don’t ride much these days except at my place or if I get a wild hair and decide to race some off road events. My son in law and some of the kids down the street ride on his small pit bike track 3-4 days a week. The neighbors LOVE him! ??
