Went to Lowe’s this week in search of Honda gas mower and they took them off the shelf. Found out that Honda will stop manufacturing gas push mowers this September.

I have roughly a 1/5 acre lot. I don’t know the dimensions of actual grass I have, but it has taken me about 2 hours to edge and cut my yard with my 15-year Toro push mower. I have mostly St Aug and it’s thick. It’s on its last legs.

Should I buy a Honda online, or just go with the EGO. I’m just skeptical with the EGO that it can cut as well as a Honda.

With 1/5 of an acre, I'm definitely ditching gas and all the noise/stink/maintenance it comes with.

I love my $400 or so self propelled Honda lawnmower. I’m thinking I might go buy another one and keep in the box. That’s the best lawnmower I’ve ever owned. I’m kind of hacked off they are getting out of the game for fear I won’t be able to get parts, albeit the first one I bought lasted forever. I actually still have the first one and it cranks on the first pull. Only reason I bought a new one was because all the local small engine shops were booked out 2-3 weeks and I needed to mow. My second one is better than the first one because obviously they made improvements on some simple things. Changing the mowing height take all of 20 seconds and is done on one side only on the mower. Its adjustment raises or lowers both sides. That dual action blade works great too. Nice clean cut.

For that small of a lot, a battery powered mower is going to be between “just fine” and “slightly desirable.”

Unless you have other EGO tools at least consider Greenworks

Replaced my honda push 3 weeks ago with a
Ego 2135 self propelled 56 V
Love it. Cuts easier and better than the 3 year old honda !
Plenty plenty of power
Plus the ego is about 40 lbs lighter

I don't know how it takes you 2 hours to mow that lot. I did mine yesterday in 45 min including blowing.

My lot is slightly larger than yours and I have a fleet of greenworks tools, including mower. Been using for 2 fulls years now and not a single issue.

I recommend electric.

There's currently a stop sale on Honda's because of a Cam issue. Not sure if we'll see them again. I am in the same boat. I'm now considering a Toro gas or Ego.

I don't know much about the EGO line but I am not sure why anyone would be skeptical about the grass-cutting capabilities of an electric motor. S0 long as your blade is sharp and the motor spins at the same RPM as the Honda, it will cut almost identically if all else is generally equal.

True in a way but it needs the power to maintain those RPM while cutting. That said I believe the Ego will do it.

Battery mowers will bog down on tall grass, so you have to stay on top of mowing. Additionally, replacement batteries are getting very expensive, with heavy use expect to replace batteries every couple of years, so factor that cost in.

This is going to sound more harsh than I am intending it, but how does it take you 2 hours to mow and trim 1/5th of an acre? It takes me about an hour and 45 minutes to push mower, trim, and edge out 5/8 acre lot. Its about 25k or 30k total ft2.

I have between 1/4 and 1/3 of an acre. I can push mow it in around an hour.

Not to muddy the waters, but earlier this year I purchased my last Briggs & Stratton engine. When this one dies I will either put an electric motor on my old Snapper deck or buy a Makita mower.

They're more expensive than EGO and the like, but every Makita tool I own works flawlessly. I expect nothing less from their mower lineup.

My gas push mower bogs down on tall grass, probably more than the higher voltage battery mowers would. In any case I'd rather just pull the trigger again than have to pull start a gas mower over and over.

Ego has a 3 year battery warranty, and all evidence points to them lasting more than 5 years typically. Life expectancy can be near 1,000 full charge cycles, but even if you get only 300 out of it that's 6+ years generally. So factor that in.

I mentioned getting the brushless motor EGO mower because it will increase RPM when it encounters thicker than normal grass. It will drain the battery faster but that's to he expected. Better than having to go over the area an additional time.

You must have a one horsepower gas powered, never heard anyone come close to saying a gas mowered bogged down prior to a battery. I have the Kolbalt battery push mower, you couldn't give me another.

And battery prieces have increaed crazy since the plandemic, atleast Dewalt and Ego (the brands I use) and no, there not getting cheaper. If you beleive a battery will last 6 years and give you any reasonable charge, I have a ton of stuff to sell you, please give me your contact info.

The battery mowers don’t have the weight necessary to cut grass well. They float over the grass and cut unevenly vs a gas mower sitting in the grass and cutting evenly
