Skenes is a Grown arse Man.

Coach's conversation should be, "Paul, what do you think you should do? You want to start? You want sit this one out? You want to relieve?" If he wants to start, start him. If he want to sit out, sit out. If he wants to explore the role of reliever, let him.
He's a grown arse man and his input / buy-in into this is important.
As a competitor, he'll tell you what he should do. And the other pitchers are solid enough to win this game for us.
Per other threads, 2, 3, or 4 runs ain't gonna win it. Need hits with runners on base (keen grasp for the obvious).

Would you judge him poorly if he said "Y'know coach, my arm feels ok, but I don't want to risk going on 3 days rest after throwing 240+ pitches over the course of 5 days last week. I have my future to think about."?

I’m pretty sure the OP said leave it up to Skenes.

I wouldn't judge him if he said that.

Support him either way
His choice--don't risk his career

He’s not gonna say that. He’s a competitor, not a pussy

What people don't talk abkut is that the trainers/strength people do some sort of testing with him on game day to test his arm strength. I don't know what they do, but Jay has alluded to it. So they are on top of it, for sure.

But he also played up his competitive nature, as in Skenes is too competitive to let us down by not thinking about his future tomorrow.
My point is that I really don't think people realize what they are actually asking of Skenes when they expect him to not only start tomorrow, but actually throw more than a scheduled bullpen day.

I would pull his dad into that conversation.

I'm fairly certain LSU trainers use 4app to judge pitcher readiness/recovery. If Skenes' 4app scores aren't where they need to be, he's not pitching tomorrow, regardless of what he says.

The fact that Jay punted tonight and threw the worst of our bullpen tells me he has an idea of who is starting tomorrow.
If he knew it wasn’t Skenes, I bet he wouldn’t have put in the worst of the worst after Guidry

I want dude to pitch as much as anyone else on here ; but dude has the opportunity to one day cash in on hundreds of millions of dollars in mlb contracts if he stays healthy. Not in same universe as selling cars.

I also think he should pitch as much as he wants whenever he wants and his input should be all that matters.

I have no problem with Skene’s last performance as a Tiger was the gem he pitched against WF.

And that's the part that nobody is considering--what if his arm is mush tomorrow and he just isn't himself? I hope we aren't expecting too much from a kid who just might not physically be able to perform at 100%

I think the trainers' input matters more.
No shite he would want to pitch tomorrow. Anyone with a pulse would want to pitch in a national championship game. But, sometimes someone has to be wise and step in, especially when they have life-changing money on the line.

Paul Skenes transferred to LSU for one major reason...to have a chance to play for and win the CWS. Do you really think this is even a real question to this guy? He's a fricking stud...he loves his teammates...and he wants to win. I dont see how he doesnt throw honestly...

To unlock his full pitching potential and make him a first round pick.
Mission accomplished.

Many of these comments are spoken by people who do not have hundreds of millions of dollars in potential earnings in their future. Whatever is best for him and his pitching arm is what he should do, and if that is sit in the dugout and watch, then so be it.
