Going to Mexico in July with the wife. Her passport expires in September. We have a trip booked to the Bahamas in October. Those trips are about 14 weeks apart. What’s the quickest way to get her renewed passport? We’re afraid even with expedited service that she won’t get it back in time. Any passport office that can do it in person? TIA

You're going to have to call your congressman or senator. Seriously.

There are passport offices that do it in person but you need an appointment. When my buddy checked they weren't taking appointments.

It's messed up.

Try for an appointment first. (Where are you?) If it is still nada, go to your US politician.

We’re in Lafayette, LA. So the closest office is in NOLA.

Does she send application in with soon to be expired passport in, then contact one of the state representatives?

There was a recent thread on this topic with a lot of good information and links.

LINK

Ideally, you'd renew 6 months prior to the expiration date. In our daughter's case, as noted in the links, she had to have her US Senator help book an appointment in Seattle (she lived in Oregon). Had to drive up 6 hours to get it, but they did print one on the spot.

Call your US Senator. Now. And see if they can assist.

You can go to an embassy and get it same day if you are really pressed, but you will pay signifgantly for it.

A regular expedited passport is probably 4-6 weeks. A regular send off is probably 6-8 weeks right now.

As a reference, I turned in paperwork for mine, an expired renewal, on March 20th and it should arrive today.

We applied at the end of March, got ours about a week ago without expediting. You should be good with 14 weeks if you do expedited.

Somewhat off topic ... went to U.S. Virgin Islands in 1990s with no issue not having a Passport ... except when I was leaving. I just asked them if I was going to have to stay and they let me on through. Of course, this was pre-911.

I applied for renewal on-line and got mine back in 9 weeks. My wife filled out the forms and sent all her stuff in by mail expedited and got hers in like 7 weeks.

If anyone wants another data point, I put in two that were received on 4/11/23 that are still in processing. Did not expedite.

The USVI is part of the US and has no passport requirements for US citizens. Same as Puerto Rico.

Well yeah, you used to not need one to travel to mexico or canada if you were a us citizen.
