Really excited about this kid. Has a ton of raw potential and he should be going into his junior year. QB room looks very promising for the future. He finished Day 1 ranked 11th out of the 20 QBs there.

Colin Hurley looked to have one of the stronger arms at the Elite 11 Finals on Day 1. The LSU pledge has a compact build, with a developed, powerful base. He has a loose, fluid throwing motion and has no trouble spinning and generating pace on his throws. The Jacksonville Trinity Christian product made some high-level throws down the sideline and showed the ability to drive the ball downfield with ease. His accuracy fluctuated at times. The footwork will need to quicken and he’ll need to continue improving his functional movement skills as he looked a little uncomfortable on the move and off-platform. Hurley is the youngest prospect on hand, reclassifying from the 2025 cycle. – Charles Power

This is what we want to see most improvement on his senior year (Weird to say for someone who is only 16 years old right now), but thats been the biggest negative with him so far and it's definitely a big one you want to see improved upon. Considering his age, he's going up against guys basically a year+ older than he is so he still has some extra time to develop things like that and I dont see him being a starter year 1 or even 2 here probably as he continues to mature.

Yep. This is what it is all about for this young man.

Agree with your take completely. Maybe he swings into shape quickly but the best bet, and likely plan, is give him 2 years to catch up developmentally and learn from Nuss and Collins. Then let him face off with Collins and whoever '25 and see how it shakes out.
My biggest question mark is with the "private" coaching he's been getting reportedly. Why hasn't that person cleaned up the accuracy issues? Or is progress being made hence the good showings? Basically, is the accuracy fixable? If private coaching plus all the camp settings can't fix it(tools taught to help) then it may not be.

Private coaching is almost always exclusively to work on general strength/athleticism and arm strength, with accuracy as a distant third. That’s the world we live in today regarding throwing sports from baseball to quarterbacking. There’s way more science behind teaching someone throw something harder than teaching them how to throw something accurately. That’s why his private coach is a private coach and Joe Sloan is getting paid the big bucks to do it at LSU

Caleb Williams had bad accuracy numbers in HS before his SR season. He did have the benefit of being a DT QB. He made a significant jump from JR to SR so I don't doubt Hurley at his age can make that jump.

The kid is 16 and going into his senior season. Give him 2 years in a college program and let compete with Collins for the job.

Charles Power hates LSU, evaluating LSU recruits, he never has anything to say good about commits until it’s obvious he’s wrong

Josh Allen had accuracy issues throughout college…he’s working out ok.

He has MULTIPLE private coaches. It should be cleaned up by now. But Joe Sloan sees something in him so we will see in a few years.

The staff has a plan for the QB room. Listening today sounds like you get Nuss for hopefully two years then Collin steps in depending how Rickie does.

Hurley is probably the closest thing to a modern day Todd Marinovich as there is.
He has literally been groomed to be a QB since childhood. Nobody has had more specialized work by his age that I am aware of.

Agree. Which is why 90% of him is exciting and also why the accuracy issues are a real concern.

Night #2 Updates — for those concerned about his accuracy…

7:15 p.m PT: LSU commit Colin Hurley showed off a live arm. We charted him as accurate on 16 of 20 passes. He showed some nice touch at times, as well with some nice layered throws. The footwork still has room for improvement, as he wasn’t overly natural on the move and could up the urgency. The Elite 11 staff score for Hurley was 42. — Charles Power, On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings

Rookie question: is elite 11 just a 7 on 7 flag football competition?
Posted on 6/15/23 at 10:16 pm to wadewilson
Yes and No. They’re playing 7on7 but it’s more situational. They’re coached by ex college/NFL QBs. Working on their footwork, route combinations vs specific coverages, etc. They’ve done combine interview question training for the contestants in the past.
I’d put stock into Elite 11 but not the end all be all. Mentally, it’s tough for them and you’re throwing to guys with zero chemistry. If you can do well there, chances are you’ve got some good intangibles and talent. Doesn’t mean you’ll be the next Joe Burrow.
