JJ had a lot of praise for Floyd last night. I would be surprised if he made a change in game two in Omaha.

I don't think it will happen, but I think if you want to win this thing, you take a deep look at yourself and recognize that you probably can't win game 2 without Skenes.
Hurd, Hurd/Floyd needs to be considered for game 1.
I don't think Jay Johnson will do that. He's throwing Skenes in game 1, and he's throwing the combo of Floyd / Hurd in game 2 (if things go well).

Kinda crazy they wouldn’t think about going with Hurd
I think Johnson knows you need them both to pitch in that game, so I think he starts Floyd and has him on a reasonably short leash.
He was reluctant (for good reason) to go to Hurd early yesterday. I don't think that will be the case in game 2 of the CWS. He will go to him when he needs him...although that might not be right after Floyd. It will be dependent on the game situation.

You throw Skenes game 1 so he gets as much rest as possible and you give yourself the best chance to avoid losers bracket after game 1.
It's a no brainer move if you want to win the thing.

I could see him going Floyd/Cooper again tbh. Cooper will give up contact, but again, this park is pitcher friendly in terms of homeruns.

I think with the way the rest of the bullpen is pitching, you have to think about just designating Hurd as a starter.
The whole waiting for Floyd to implode so I can put in Hurd is so dumb.
I get the idea win at all cost, but there is a more efficient move to be made there.

I think LSU has close to zero chance to make it to the championship series if it loses game 1 or game 2. I think LSU's only legitimate chance to advance is to go undefeated.
All decisions should be made to that end, IMO. But, I agree that Skenes is starting. This isn't like the Tulane decision.
Back to the topic at hand, if both guys are throwing strikes with their offspeed, Hurd is significantly better than Floyd. He has a plus breaking pitch.

If it aint broke don't fix it.
Skenes
Floyd
Hurd
Skenes
Floyd
Hurd

you dont think Hurd pitched better than Floyd vs OSU?
by what metric? Style, K's... sure. For that game, Floyd's ERA was 3.00 and Hurd was 7.20. If anyone is asking me which I'd rather have, the answer is always going to be the lower amount of runs. Outside of a handful of pitches, Hurd looked amazing. But we can't discount those pitches b/c those runs count just the same. And I'm not sure if the ball that Turley hit off Hurd has landed yet.

I agree. If it were me, I'd start Hurd. What I think Johnson will do is different.

I think you are characterizing the move unfairly. If you start Hurd, you are doing the same thing with Floyd...you are going to use him in a high leverage situation, and ask him to go as long as he can if the game situation dictates it.

Hurd once he settled down was dominant. Floyd is never that. Over the season, Floyd has been more consistent. In fact, in the two outings where Hurd has really looked dominant, he was touched up early.
So, the question is whether you think Hurd has turned the corner...or what quality of stuff do you think can be effective against Wake. A reasonable person may look at Floyd and decide his lack of a mix just isn't a good matchup.

Floyd always gives up a homer or 2 but always settles down and gets the work in. Usually solos. I'd throw Floyd and bring in Hurd if Floyd stumbles but the BP has stepped up lately. Hopefully it's a sign of things to come. And as long as we are hitting it takes a lot of pressure off the pitchers.

This. Floyd couldn't spot his offspeed for strikes yesterday and a veteran lineup like Kentucky was able to sit fastball and make him pay. I will say that his control was as bad as I can recall for him, especially with his offspeed stuff so here's to hoping that was a one-off.
My vote is still start Floyd with Hurd in long relief as needed, similar to OSU game.

I'd consider going Skenes against USM/Tennessee then Cooper against Wake.

Just answer the question.

Hurd is better than Floyd at this point.

As usual, we see it the same
Agree with everything
Watching WF's LH's throw back foot sliders to RH's and get swings and misses had me shaking my head
Skenes in Game 2 would give us the best chance, but it's baseball, stuff will happen. Probably can't afford to save him and lose a close 1st game, then have Skenes shut down somebody, only to not score against their guy, resulting in 2 and BBQ

I'm not high of Floyd as some here.
Guy's fastball is pretty much MLB BP.
If you want to gamble your weekend on Floyd then go ahead but you're trusting a guy who gives up bombs.
It worked out great yesterday because it was all solo shots.

I wouldn't be upset with either Floyd or Hurd in game 2. Floyd being consistent is what makes him a solid option. Hurd has the stuff to be dominant, but he's also had two of the worst outings on our staff this season. One of those outings was within the last month. But both outings, we got in a hole that we couldn't dig ourselves out of. Floyd hasn't done that.
