I like Nashville a lot. Felt like a clean version of what New Orleans could be. I’ve felt relatively safe in Downtown Houston proper (avoiding the NE pocket and the 3rd/5th Wards.) Austin is nice. I think this is a world wide phenomenon.. last I was in Europe was to Paris two years ago. Hardly recognized the place. Mass migration really changed the landscape. Shanty structures everywhere, migrants aggressively panhandling or selling cheap crap on sidewalks, I remember thinking I hardly even heard French being spoken. It was a far different place than even 10 yrs ago when I was there last.

I’d nominate San Diego, San Antonio, Las Vegas, OKC, Salt Lake City, and maybe even El Paso.

Loved seeing this...as I just started packing to leave for a work trip to St. Louis all week.

Went there last year, noticed the same thing as well with everything eerily shutting down around 9 or so. Area around the ballpark and toward the Arch isn’t bad, but the rest is a dump. I read that there were murders almost every other week at a couple of the light rail stations.

STL is basically Memphis north.

I go there frequently for work, don’t want to go any further north of the old football dome. I think there are a few decent places like salt n smoke and sugar fire are pretty good. I grew up in New Orleans so the downtown looks pretty good comparatively. If there is a Cards game, the area is popping pretty well. The arch park is a great place to go jogging, plenty of folks around there.

lots of midwestern downtowns are truly awful; and usually the ones you would expect to be awful are the good ones.
