No, he wasn't
ETA. At least half a dozen drivers won more races, and two drivers won as many titles.

This certainly destroys the Earnhardt argument lol

Hard to argue Phelps….

Didn't Babe Ruth have more homeruns than every other TEAM for a couple years? I don't see how that can be touched.
If you took away all of Hank Aaron's home runs he would still have 3000 hits.

Is he now ahead of Wayne?

Almost like Novak is not aging normally. There’s almost zero chance he is not on singing.

He's probably solidified as the GOAT tennis player although some may say Serena is his equal.
I can't compare individual athletes with team athletes. It's hard enough comparing Phelps, Carl Lewis or Bolt, and Nicklaus or Tiger.
I never played and rarely watched it, but hockey is such a difficult sport. It combines skills of baseball, soccer, and the physicality of (to some extent) football...and ALL on skates! If one wants to argue that the greatest hockey player is the greatest team sport athlete of all time, I can live with that.

The real interesting business question play that is here. How will Jordan deal with Novak and Lacoste blowing up the “23” concept on all the clothing he is wearing?

I have Aaron #2 on my all time list…. But he didn’t dominate like Ruth did when he played. IMO no player will ever match the stats Ruth had in 1921.

Prior to the 90s, the top guys would routinely skip the Aussie Open. Sampras didn’t play it every year. Borg didn’t play it. It’s an important footnote to consider when looking at the big 3’s insane slam counts. Nadal on clay and Pete on grass are the 2 most dominant forces I’ve ever seen, but I have to admit that Novak is much more versatile than either of them. As for the predictions that he’ll win a lot more, I think Alcaraz is the real deal and might disrupt all that.

He's going to be at 24 in like 3 weeks

Look up the stats of HOW far ahead Gretzky was compared to the entire league for a 6 year period.
Gretzky was amazing and unmatched; until ‘84 when Lemieux came into the league. He was the only other player in the league that could play to his level.
Lemieux was a better natural goal scorer, and holds the record for the highest career points-per-game average (2.005) and the highest career goals per game average. Gretzky played 500+ more games though and Lemieux struggled with Hodgkins right in his prime. Those numbers for Lemieux held up as hockey got into the neutral zone trap days as well. Wasn’t the wild 12 goal games of the 80’s.
Where Gretzky really separates himself as the goat is his +/-. His career stat is over +500 which is unreal. Literally made everyone around him better by a huge margin.
That said he still had a team and played with legitimate great players. Djokovic has to do it all himself and that counts for a lot.

No. Gretzky is the the ONLY undisputed GOAT of his sport. So far beyond everyone else in every category

Gretzky did what Ruth did. Lap the league.
When he set single-season records, the second place player, the guy closest to to him would be almost half that.
You can't say Fed and Nadal (his peers) are half as good as Djokovic.

I am a huge Djokovic fan as I always disliked Nadal. Liked Fed enough but liked the "villain" of Djoker
He has been incredible for so long for sure. Is he better than Phelps? I know the Olympics don't matter for Tennis nearly as much as Grand Slams do but he was never good at the Olympics for whatever reason. Should that be a demerit?
The Gretzky/Jordan/Lebron/Brady whomever else debate is hard due to team sport vs individuals. Gretzky is like 50% better statwise than almost anyone else who played.
Djoker would need to win 30+ to be able to say that. If he does that he is right there at the top with anyone (or ahead of everyone). He has a shot since Nadal/Fed are basically gone but he probably has 2-3 more years left.
In the end, who cares. He needs to first win the GOAT tennis debate which will rage forever anyway, then move on to some tournament of champions where people will fight until heads fall off

Nadal was the one who played both of them the longest and still has the 2nd most GSs. He played both at their peaks for the longest. He may still be the GOAT as he beat both of them so many times at each of their peaks
And I'm a straight up Nadal hater
Posted on 6/12/23 at 2:58 pm to Buckeye06
Nadal is the same age as djok. So, when djok ends up with more majors by 4-6 or so, there will be zero argument for nadal
