On the 50th anniversary of Secretariat’s impressive Belmont run I’ve been reading up on him.
Came across this article :
It’s worth noting the horse had a tell tale symptom of steroid use: an abnormally large heart
Could it be that people are afraid to face the truth since Secretariat represented hope during the trouble times of Watergate, the Vietnam War (ending), and 1st Wave Feminism?

I'm a huge Secretariat fan so I'm biased, but if they doped him to the point of tripling the size of his heart, then his cardiac function would have been abysmal. Steroids can cause an enlarged/thickened/dilated left ventricle which can't relax and fill with blood to then pump it out. This results in heart failure.
I guess I'm saying if his heart was that big because they doped him then he also would've had to have heart failure and therefore, unable to perform. I suppose the heart changes could have occurred after his racing days were done but he probably would've just rolled over and died at that point.
I suspect he was just a freak horse with a giant stature and a big arse heart.

Well both Riva Ridge and Secretariat were had initial fertility issues. And though everyone loves to think it was all water, hay, and oats back in the day it has always been anything goes.

I don't even know what this is supposed to mean?
Was Secretariat a liberal hero? Was he for feminism because his owner was a woman? Or was he just a horse of course?

I actually tracked down the book and found a preview in Google Books where I could search it, and while this guy has pretty good credentials as far as horse racing goes, this stuff about Secretariat comes across as unsourced gossip, plus there’s another reference in the book where he admits that some of the people saying this had tried to mate mares with him and were pissed off that it didn’t take or produce Secretariat II, like that was a sure thing or something.
