Walt Disney's (DIS.N) Pixar Animation Studios has eliminated 75 positions including those of two executives behind box office disappointment “Lightyear,” sources said on Saturday, the first significant job cuts at the studio in a decade.
The cuts included "Lightyear" director Angus MacLane, a 26-year animator who was part of the senior creative team on such acclaimed films as “Toy Story 4” and “Coco.” Galyn Susman, producer of "Lightyear," also departed. Susman had been at Pixar since the release of the original “Toy Story” movie in 1995.
MacLane and Susman could not be reached for comment. Michael Agulnek, Pixar's vice president of worldwide publicity since 2015, was also laid off, the sources said. He did not return a call seeking comment.

Galyn Susman -- the longtime Disney producer who's credited with saving "Toy Story 2" -- just got the boot alongside several other Pixar employees ... and fans are pissed.
The news came down Saturday from Reuters, which reported Susman was one of 75 Pixar workers who recently gotten the axe in mass layoffs. She was one of 3 key Pixar people to be let go ... the others included Michael Agulnek -- Pixar's VP of worldwide publicity -- and 'Lightyear' director Angus MacLane, who was involved in other Pixar flicks too.
The firings are reportedly tied to the bomb that was last year's 'Lightyear' ... a movie based on the "real" Buzz Lightyear, voiced by Chris Evans. It had a budget of about $200 mil, and only made $226 mil at the worldwide box office ... not to mention middling reviews.

Elemental is projecting to do even worse than Lightyear.
Can't wait to see the usual suspects to come defend the honor of Disney like the progressive Mickey Mouse ballwashers they are.

Still kinda blows my mind that Disney doesn’t just go back to making some fun princess movies with a few catchy songs and then print a billion plus dollars a pop.

This movie was doomed when they decided to turn toy Buzz into human Buzz. Kids grew up with and love toy Buzz, not this one.

I’ll stick up for Lightyear a bit. It’s actually not bad/kinda good. Of course Disney had to virtue signal hard as frick and throw lesbians in there for seemingly no reason whatsoever. But outside of that, it’s pretty entertaining.
I agree that it makes no sense that Disney has the “printing money” formula figured out, yet continuously ventures further and further away from that to virtue signal itself into the red though.

Little Mermaid might not break even, Elemental and Indian Jones are getting poor reviews, they have problems.

I didn’t see it but my kids did in the theaters. When it came out on Disney plus they had zero interest in rewatching it.
Using the real Buzz probably doubles what they made on the movie. It’s not complicated.
I thought Elemental looked good. At least it’s a new concept. I’ll be bummed if it sucks.

I enjoyed the movie when it came to streaming. The lesbian relationship was unimportant to the entire story; however, that’s sadly what killed the movie.
They SHOULD have let Tim Allen voice Lightyear, but I do understand it in a way since they are 2 completely different characters.

The last Disney or Pixar film my kids watched on repeat was the original frozen and inside out.
It’s not a case of my kids growing up either because our youngest watched the shite out of both of those as well. They just simply got away from what they did well.
Really isn’t complicated they have been successful for decades but now people in charge refuse to do what makes money.

We went on a Disney cruise in february(highly recommend btw) and my kids watched some of the classics in the cabin during downtime. They’ve been into them ever since. Boy and girl, ages 6 and 4.
We’ve watched Aladdin, Bambi, Sleeping Beauty, etc a bunch. Pretty cool.

If y’all think they are “learning” you are mistaken.

What do you mean the real Buzz? Do you mean the toy, or Tim Allen’s voice? Because this character was neither of those things. It would’ve been nice bad they used Allen, but I get why they went in a different direction since it’s what the toy was based on.
What killed that movie was the Disney woke stupidity and negative press due to that IMO.

Wonder if they bring back Lasseter

I mean the toy
I understand it’s a different character and movie, but that’s not what kids know. You can’t say say this is a Buzz Lightyear movie and trot out something kids are fully unfamiliar with. Just make a different character all together if that’s your idea. It was a really dumb premise imo.
I didn’t see the movie like I said but I guarantee it’s a better draw if you use the toy Buzz.
