I'm pretty sure the answer is the Kate Vick angle. My God, you couldn't even blame Vince Russo for that one. WTF was Vince thinking with that? Who actually told him that was a great idea?

That was Degeneration X
Nation of Domination was their political ripoff which have been a part of wrestling since the Cold War. Nikolai Volkoff made a career off of this with that character being used as far back as the 70s

Great idea in principle but it exposed the guys who couldn’t fight for shite in real life. Supposedly tough guys getting knocked out by jabs etc. obviously a horrible idea because of all the injuries and said wrestlers who were supposed to be ‘tough’ yet were exposed as being anything but.

I still shed a tear thinking about the time I thought Mr McMahon died in the limo explosion. Chris Benoit murdered his family so the bit ended. Vince was probably upset he had to rewrite everything and change the story line.
