Just move to the cheapest area of the country available and drive on the most depressing highway you can find for 4 hours a day. Basically the same experience.

I stayed at the Mercantile in a vrbo once. It was a strange experience.

Look at North Oak Cliff around Trinity Groves on Ft Worth Ave. A whole lot of new stuff has been built around there in the past 2 or 3 years and it's 5 minutes to downtown. Everything in Dallas is expensive though. I know you can get a 1 br 750 s.f. apt off lower Greenville for about $1200. It will be an old place built in the late 1920s but many of them have been updated. Look on Oram, La Vista and Lewis. Same thing in Oak Cliff around Bishop Arts. I know because I own apts in each area but I don't have anything available.

Such bullshite. Dallas doesn't really have many hipsters. It's a great area full of suburan tourists on the weekend.

When I worked downtown I had a 2bdr/2ba loft at Dallas Power and Light that overlooked the pool/bar area. Great spot for a straight single guy.
