Expensive dog allergy medicine Apoquel

One of my two dogs we adopted about 4 years ago has allergies year round. With vet tried different foods, benadryl, zyrtec, you name it. Now they want to try Apoquel daily which is $2.50 a pill. Luckily got pet insurance for the first time because she has allergies so bad. Anyone have experience with apoquel or any way to save a buck or two? Thx.

well yeah, but if you're the type that buys pet insurance you probably won't like them.

Ask for the "Old Yeller .45 caliber lead pain pill".
Those allergies will become a thing of the past instantly.

Yes, experience it works. Save a buck, no way I could find. It is too new for a generic version.

My dog has very bad allergies. Apoquel works great. (Nothing else really worked).
You can check into getting the prescription filled at places like Costco. I don't know if it's cheaper than the $2.50 you mentioned.

I use Cytopoint for mine and found that I am able to get the injections as needed, as opposed to giving my dog an Apoquel pill every day. It works great and has been more affordable than Apoquel.

We have a dog on it. It’s expensive but it’s been the only thing to work for us. The vet said to give her two pills a day but we only have to do that late summer when her allergies get really bad. Most of the year we just give her one in the morning and she’s fine.

You can try the injection but the vet told me they can be less effective. It doesn’t work for all dogs.

Apoquel works wonders for our dog. If there was a cheaper alternative, she'd be on it.

We did apoquel on a previous pet. It helped, and it was injections.

I had this issue with a dog I adopted. He has since grew out of them thankfully but we did cytopoint injections. They would last 4-6 months for my dog even though it’s labeled as a monthly injection and were like 150 a shot or so for a lab sized dog. Essentially when I noticed my dog itching again I would go back for another shot. My dog was so bad he lost a lot of his hair and was covered in scabs from scratching/biting. Would recommend asking about it. I’ve read apoquel has killed some dogs and that cytopoint is safer but I don’t know how true that is or if it can be attributable to the drug itself.
