Have always liked them, possibly looking at getting a used one soon.

Any specific problems to look out for?

I had one for 10 years and the only issue I ever had with it was that in its last years, it sat for a while (about 7-8 months) and a fricking raccoon decided to set up shop under my hood and ate every piece of wire imaginable under the hood

In other words, it was a very great vehicle

Think it was a 2002ish. It was a while ago. Bought it new. It was a great ride

Had a 2012 that I kept for 9 years. Very reliable. Outside of normal maintenance there were no issues.

Also, I always enjoyed the comfy ride.

2020 explorer. About 40k miles. No problems. Only complaint is dealing with and/or getting used to the engine shutoff thing

I believe that is becoming standard though

Got it.

I'm looking for about a 2016ish model with low mileage, I like to pay cash for vehicles.

They don't seem to hold their value as well as a Tahoe or Highlander so I wasn't sure about potential issues.

I have a 2006 that I purchased new on college. Still drive it from time to time. 318000 miles and counting.

We had a 2016 model. Back up camera would go black sometimes. Dealership wanted $700 to fix it. I never felt like the engine and transmission worked well together. Just wasn't smooth like my Avalon.

I’m on my second. Love them both. Never had issues. I had my first from ‘96 to 2015.

Explorers are sneaky big vehicles and roomy. Much more space than a Highlander.

2015 Explorer Sport, wife’s vehicle with 90k miles. Tires and oil changes, never seen the mechanic shop.

The plastic piece between the windshield and body sucks arse. The interior rattles. This was on a 2012-13.

2020 Explorer ST approaching 50k miles.

My favorite vehicle I’ve ever owned. I’ve had some with a bit better performance and a few that were higher end on luxury. And definitely a few that were more expensive.

But for comfort, power, style, handling, versatility, trouble free — this has been my favorite.

My mom drives them, must be on her third or fourth one and the latest has been a problem. I think it’s a 22 and every time I see her she’s in a loaner from the dealership

I had a 2015 explorer with around 80k miles. There were a few instances where it gave a steering assist fault, which essentially cuts the power steering. Luckily it only happened at slow speeds, but I didn’t keep it very long after it started doing that.

Ours is almost 10 years old and just crossed 100k. The biggest issue we've had was a busted thermostat at an inconvenient time. There are also several minor issues that are ignorable at best and frustrating at worst. Things like tears in the seat underneath or a broken glove box. Overall, it's been a nice reliable vehicle as long as we've had it.

We have two kids for some perspective.

2015 with 120k. We had to fix the blend door actuator which wasn’t cheap. Also had it run rough a couple times and threw a code. Turned out to be a cheap valve and fixed it myself for 20$.

Been a solid car but as others have mentioned the interior has had some issues. They had to reglue the door panels under warranty.
