My wife and I will be taking a road trip from swla to the grand canyon in late june/early july. We will be staying 3 nights in sedona and taking a day trip to the canyon.

We will stay in DFW, Amarillo, Albuquerqe for a night each on the way. Heading home we will stop in phonenix and catch a diamondbacks game then on to el paso, san antonio and back home.

In total it's looking like a 10 day trip, looking for suggestions on things to see/do in Albuquerque and El Paso

So far I've got
Fort Worth - Stockyards
Amarillo - Palo Duro Canyons / Cadillacs
Albuquerque - ???
Sedona - Several things including Grand Canyon
Phoenix - Diamond Backs game
El Paso - ???
San Antonio - ???

Looking for must eats/sights to see.

When going to GCNP from Sedona, take 89 north out of Flagstaff. Then take 64 and enter at Desert View on the east end of the canyon. Stunning views and less crowded than the main entrance. You can then drive west along the south rim to the main visitor’s center. Head back to Sedona by taking 64 south to I 40 to 89A south into Sedona.

Treat yourself and your wife to a treatment at Sedona New Day spa.

We just got back from San Antonio and loved staying at Hyatt Residence Club Wild Oak Ranch which is over by Sea World. It felt so quiet and secluded without being too far from good dining. Recommend breakfast at Grand Tequila. Riverwalk/Alamo are musts if you’ve never been there.

When in Phoenix, check out Hotel Adelaide in Scottsdale. Marriott property. Old motel renovated beautifully. Lots of great eateries/shopping in Scottsdale too. Breakfast at Morning Squeeze.

In the New Mexico section, you can visit Santa Fe (close to Albuquerque, more touristic) as well as Carlsbad Caverns and White Sands National Park.

I haven’t done the latter two, but I believe at least one of those is in the range between Albuquerque and El Paso.

Someone on this board surely has though, and I’d like to hear their thoughts.

Your mileage may vary, buuuuuuttt...I'd skip Sedona altogether unless you're staying in a posh spa. It was PCB with a flair for turquoise in town.

I had a great time staying in Flagstaff (at the Little America) and then we booked a night in a cabin on the rim at the Bright Angel Lodge. Amazing sunrise/set views. Stick around and take a donkey trip to the floor of the canyon. You can stay the night (they'll cook dinner and bfast) and then ride back up.

1 day driving from Sedona and back is not much for the GC OP. If you are just staying on the rim you really only need 1 full day, but it’s a 3 hour drive so you are starting off behind. I’d strongly consider a night in the park. The GC is basically in the middle of nowhere so prepare for that. Something like a 1.5 days is probably great for the GC.

I agree with the above the eastern entrance road is great and very quiet.

I’m not sure if they rent E-bikes at the park? That would be a great way to see the park if so.

I was there with my 3 kids under 10, horrible place to take kids, but that won’t be a concern if yours’.

Check out Bear-a-zona in Williams. It’s a drive through park with bears everywhere (and they have a few other animals too).
