How or what are you guys using?
I've been throwing in a Rid-X pouch into the commode once a month. I've wondered is it necessary/beneficial???

coming up on 17 years now at this house and i've never done a thing. we did pump it out once when i had to replace the discharge line
just make sure your aerator is working and dont flush anything but poop & TP. dont use cleaning chemicals in the commode either (vinegar is fine)

Make sure it's getting pumped out every 5-10 years (depending on the number of folks in the house). The house I grew up in, built in 65 had a septic system that had been pumped out a grand total of once in the last 58 years. We had to replace the whole thing this spring.

Agree completelyif the aerator is working correctly, nothing else should be necessary.

My septic company didn't recommend products like Rid-X. I'm not sure if they guy was lieing or not.

If you've got a newer system with an aerator, maintenance guys I know don't recommend additives.
They do recommend using easily-dissolved tissue like Angel Soft (never Charmin) and switching to dryer sheets instead of liquid fabric softener.
