#UPDATE "Today on May 20, around mid-day, Bakhmut was taken in its entirety," head of Russia's Wagner mercenary group Yevgeny Prigozhin said in a video posted on Telegram, with fighters behind him holding the Russian flag surrounded by ruins.
Regardless of what you think about this war, this should be a warning to all that no matter how advanced modern military tech is, at the end of the day, you will still die in the streets when trying to take a modern city. But what do world leaders care? They won't be the ones dying in the streets.

This is true. However, over the last few days, even pro-Ukraine channels have admitted that Ukraine controlled less than 1% of the town and that was hard to defend houses on the outskirts.

Assuming you're trying to take a city and not just level it, this is absolute truth. Urban warfare is the great equalizer, it's brutal as hell, and the technology edge one side may have all but vanishes. At the end of the day it's numbers and training, but you WILL lose people regardless of your superiority in both of those, especially if you're the guys trying to root out an in-place force.

Remember, it was Little Lady Lindsey Graham that told the Ukrainians, "your fight is our fight", along with Klobuchar and Victoria Nuland. And yet, none of those pieces of shite were there in Bakhmut to do any fighting.
Sources are finally beginning to creep up their estimates of Ukrainian casualties and temper the estimates of Russian casualties - some of us were castigated for this in the early days of this war.
There have been reports that Ukrainian casualties are about 300k - I call BS on this. It's way higher. They are getting shredded.
This traitorous sack of garbage called a presidential administration is going to keep the war going until the election and I have no doubt there's going to be 1 million Ukrainian casualties. They will exhaust the entire military age male population there. At least half the remaining population seems to have left Ukraine and who knows if they'll come back. The country has been hollowed out.

Most of the MSM sources from either side are clueless.
Some of the military bloggers have the most detailed analysis of these battles. Evidently, Ukraine's army isn't going to slog through the husk of a town, but are making progress threatening a reverse encirclement. The ground is still too soft for heavies though. Might be a feint though.
Time will tell what's real and what's not.
