Is it just me or has this movie been forgotten over the years? It's one of the best movies to come out of the 80s, yet I never see it talked about on lists and such. 1983 in particular had some great movie releases, but I have a difficult time finding one that is better than this.
Am I just living in childhood nostalgia here, or do yall agree?

Definitely an All Star cast.

Rob Lowe's first book, Stories I Only Tell My Friends, he talks about making this movie (which is a great movie). Said Francis Coppola kept the greasers and the socies(sp) apart to help build animosity on screen. Also said watching the girls swoon over Matt Dillon is why he focused on being an actor.
Good movie, good book.

it's funny that Macchio's name is Johnny in this movie.

not signing up with the username "Pony Boy" is one of my biggest regrets

Things like this seem insignificant but they really do help. FFC is a legendary director for a reason.

I was 13 when it came out and must have seen it at least 8 or 10 times in the theater.
The Greaser/Soc thing reminded me a lot of the pothead/prep/nerd division in the Jr High that I'd just started going to.

Nic Cage is in this as well. Well argued trivia

It was a big deal/required reading for kids forever and so its not probably been forgotten by certain age groups.
The Outsiders came out at the perfect time in the 80s as we read the book and then watched it on VHS in class.
But yeah...you don't really revisit the movie after your teenage years.

We read the book in like 7th grade then watched the movie. Still one of my favorite movies.

We talked about it a lot in the mid 90s when we had to read the book in school. We even got to watch the film in class. It was awesome.

I watched this movie the other week and cannot remember the last time I watched. It is a timeless gem that was forgotten IMO.

The Outsiders (1967)
That Was Then, This Is Now (1971)
Rumble Fish (1975)
Tex (1979)
She basically retired at 30.
This is the only film adaption of an S.E. Hinton novel that does not star Matt Dillon.
