My grandfather flew an AD Skyraider. It had four 20mm cannons and 15 hard points that could carry 8,000lbs of bombs and rockets. It was an absolute beast of a ground attack aircraft.

At the time, the ability of the F-14 to track 24 targets and attack six at once was a big deal. Ship based AEGIS can track at least 100 targets over 100 miles out, and add in AWACS (E-2), with the system integration and data transfer, the Navy has likely never been able to see so much, so far, ever. I imagine that sailors from the Korean/Vietnam war era would be absolutely astounded.

Damnit, I didn't want an excuse to have to drive to Corpus with my kids.

It saved a ton of lives. A1, A10. Coincidence? Methinks not.

It is freshly painted or should be soon and allegedly it is one of the planes from the original Top Gun. Last time I saw it was painted in the Jolly Roger regalia.

No. I rarely do jets. This F-4 Phantom is the closest thing I’ve done.

That has been removed, not sure on the current paint scheme.

I'd like an explanation of why the F-22 doesn't get more mentions

There just aren't very many of them and it's basically supernatural. I got to see a few of them in person and honestly the most amazing thing about it is that it's 20 year old tech already.

The Eagle is undefeated in air to air combat and after nearly 50 years in service, it's still considered an extremely dominate air superiority fighter on the global scale. It's basically zero threat to an F22. That is just ridiculous and again, the F22 is old now. We still have no idea what it's capabilities really are.

Worth it. Spent half a day on the Lex with my kids just a few weeks ago.

The BUFF

Why is it you think a BUFF can't drop a JDAM just as accurately as anyone else? In 2017 when we were re-taking Mosul from ISIS, I dropped a 2,000 lb JDAM with the nearest friendly (Iraqi CTS) 17 meters from the target. I've dropped Danger Close too many times to count and every time the friendlies were OK.

I wish I could remember the livery on the Mobile park F14.

They also have an A12, a BUFF, an eagle, and other cool shite. It's totally worth spending an entire weekend there. The battleship alone takes a half a day if you are paying attention and taking it all in. It's an often missed treasure of the gulf coast.

Texas State Aquarium is right there too and if you can get a decent table outside The Mess Deck is not a bad little spot to grab some food and drinks.
