I don't get it.

He was truly great.

I like his voice and style, but there are a lot of other folks who aren't included, that I wonder about before Joe Cocker.
It's crazy who is included vs. some who are not.
Is Jimmy Hall, or Wet Willie in there?

he should be in for the song Woman to Woman since so many people have sampled it, if joan jett can go in for-being a cover artiest so can Joe.

Because all he did was cover other's songs.

So did Linda Ronstadt. She's in.

Rappers and hip hop performers are in the rock and roll hall of fame, but Joe Cocker isn't.

Ponder that for a second.

Seriously? He's a cover artist. He's not in there for good reason. Now the standards are pretty low it seems but putting a cover artist in should be at least one thing they hold their ground on.

R&R HOF is a joke.

I love punk, but the Sex Pistols are in and had ONE album... and I'd say London Calling & the Ramones debut were more important and better albums

Iron Maiden still isn't in.. same with Zevon

So, a Traffic cover and a Billy Preston cover? I've never understood the appeal to his voice/music.

I am not sure Joan Jett ever wrote a song. she is a epitome of a cover artist that is in the HoF

He was a singer, not a songwriter. Many of his covers were arguably better than the original. There are other singers who are not songwriters in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

I think of Janis Joplin, most of her hits were covers.

A lot of Linda Ronstadt's hits were covers, I believe, and she only co-wrote three songs in her entire career.

I'm not saying he does or does not belong, only that he seems as worthy as some in there. I am also uncertain what their criteria are for entry.

She wrote Cherry Bomb, Bad Reputation and produced the Germs debut album.

So she had hits with the Runaways, as a solo artist and some influence as a producer and performer... I'm perfectly fine that she's in.

He also did a Randy Newman cover - "You Can Leave Your Hat On" which I like better than Newman's version. He sang covers. He was not a songwriter.

He had a soulful sound, I always liked it but I understand folks who don't. I also like Bob Dylan so take my opinion for what it is worth.
