TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A family says they are in desperate need of help after losing their precious toy elephant while visiting Disney World. On Saturday, Iowa resident Liz Atkinson made a post on Facebook asking for help after losing a stuffed elephant that once belonged to her late son Gabryel. His mother, Liz Atkinson, says they lost the toy while on a trip to Disney World.
Atkinson said the elephant, named Bruce, was given to her son when he was in the NICU and was with him for over 50 surgical procedures that were done to save his life. Unfortunately, Gabryel did not survive. “He slept with it every night and since his passing my husband and I have had it in our bed with us,” Atkinson said.
To honor their son’s memory, the Atkinson family took their surviving son, Sebastyan, to Disney World on Gabryel’s birthday. Active field search ends for missing Tampa man in the Smokies “Bruce, of course, was brought on our trip and small bag of our son’s ashes were inside the pouch on Bruce’s back,” she wrote.
“The trip was a bit hectic with 3 different cities and hotels and grief brain kicked in at some point with all of the emotions, making me really struggle with simple memory tasks.”

Atkinson said she believes the elephant could be in the parking lot near Cocoa Beach Parasailing, the Palazzo, or the orange parking ramp of Disney Springs, probably after falling out of the car.
“I never in a million years would’ve thought that struggling with grief would have impaired my memory enough to forget him somewhere, and I tried very hard to make sure he was always in a bag or in my arms so this didn’t happen,” she said.
Atkinson told 8 On Your Side that anyone with information on the elephant’s whereabouts can message her on Facebook.

I hope this family sees the loss of the toys as a gift and don't spend much time looking for those ashes.
A baby's ashes lost at Disney seems more fate than accident.
Grief brain is a real thing and I'm not full of woo, but maybe they might want to think about how much it releases them not to have the ashes. Go with the universe.

I lost a stuffed animal at Disney when I was a wee tot. Hope they have better luck on recovery. Sad story. Word to the wise don't bring stuffed animals to Disney. They don't make it back.

If this is so important how can a family lose it? You would think that in public they would pretty much know where it is at all times.

Have you ever known someone in grief?
They can barely function. Can you imagine losing a kid? Your brain can't process information.

Exactly. Why TF would you take that out of the house?

I know I'm old fashioned and the downvotes will flow but I have to say it.
This is another reason why the the remains of humans should be set apart in a special place. Putting them in a stuffed toy or necklace or whatever is disrespectful at best and lends itself to this sort of accident.

I don't get the whole saving ashes thing, my wife kept ashes from both of her parents and every time we go somewhere it's "mom always wanted to go back to Japan," so she'll take a little with her, a couple of weeks ago her dad always loved the Grand Canyon, bits of her parents ashes are scattered all over the world

Don't get me wrong, this sucks really bad for the family...but you have your child's ashes in a stuffed animal that another young kid of yours totes around. This was always more than likely to happen.

Sorry they lost it, but carrying your dead son’s ashes around in a stuffed animal is not healthy behavior.
