Austin being the size it is without having one of the major 4 sports is crazy.

Austin is new growth. Look at the population growth figures.

Louisville? New Orleans? Yet, no San Antonio.

Austin has the money, but that town bleeds burnt orange. I’m wondering if it will be tough competing with UT.

Nashville is the obvious choice. I doubt the Astros and Rangers would be too pleased about Austin, and both would probably fight it and claim territorial rights.

Charlotte is probably another good choice. Orlando is not, neither are Louisville and New Orleans. Florida already has two teams that are barely supported, Louisville and New Orleans aren't really considered viable expansion candidates, at this point.

And could you imagine MLB trying to iron out civic details with Latoya or whatever trainwreck the people of New Orleans decide to put in the mayor's office next?

Because Dallas and Houston won't allow that to happen.

I swear, some of you are so dumb when it comes to this stuff. Understand the rules...MLB rules state that only 3/4 of the owners need to approve an expansion/relocation of a team. If MLB wants a team in the Austin/San Antonio market...there will be one...PERIOD!! If the owners of the league see how much money it will make them with expansion fees...well then sorry about your luck Dallas and Houston. Again, for the people in the back, it only takes 75% of the owners to approve an expansion team. So Dallas and Houston owners can say no all they want...but if the rest of the owners say yes...then hello Austin Express!!

Nashville Stars - Will be franchise #31

Austin
San Antonio
Charlotte
Salt Lake City
Louisville
Orlando
Birmingham

This region WILL be getting more pro sports...regardless of what Dallas and Houston sports owners say. Its a region of 5+ million people.

Nashville will be in the next expansion and will pull plenty of fans.

Smart move to build the fanbase would be to put them in the AL since the closest franchises are all NL (Braves, Cardinals, Reds) and it would make it easy for people to adopt the new team without breaking previous allegiances.

Everyone says Charlotte if one goes to NC, but I think Raleigh would be a better city for baseball. Regardless of what town, no MLB team in NC is a huge miss; baseball is huge in the state and the USA Baseball complex is already here in the Triangle.

Nashville is the easy answer though.

Nashville (#35) would be the second smallest metro area with a team. Ahead of Milwaukee (#40) and barely behind Cleveland (#34).

Charlotte, Orlando, and San Antonio (#22-24) are ahead of a few more MLB cities like Pittsburgh, Vegas*, Cincinnati, and Kansas City.

I still think Nashville could succeed though. Plenty of tourism already and enough population and corporate dollars to make it work.

Not sure why everyone thinks Nashville is such a slam dunk. This is not a great time to be trying to cut into the Braves fanbase, which is exactly what a Nashville team would be doing. It's a very transient city with a lot to do and a lot of transplants who already have favorite teams. If they get a baseball team and that team isn't awesome immediately out of the gate, I think they'll struggle more than others seem to.

Same could be said for a Charlotte/Raleigh team.

Either Nashville or Memphis.

Memphis would draw from Tennessee, Mississippi, and Arkansas, all which have a pretty big college baseball following.

Nashville would probably have a cooler set up, plus you are less likely to get your car stolen or murdered

Florida doesn’t support the teams it has, even when the Rays have been more successful than the Yanks over the last 5-6 years.

Yeah the only way Orlando is getting a team is if Tampa moved there if they’re unable to get a stadium done

that would be pretty good I think. I wonder what you go with for a region name int hat case. Can't use "Texas" obviously. It's not in Austin or San Antonio proper so not sure you could use either of those. "South Texas" sounds dumb. Idk

A few options...

Lone Star State _______ similar to the Golden State Warriors

Hill Country ________

Or you could just use Texas anyway... Chicago, New York, and Los Angeles all have two teams with the same geographic locale in their name.
