If he's Barkley good it's not a bad investment. And Robinson looks every bit the part. The Falcons did just fine picking a serious need with the potential for a ton of production.

Barkley was elite elite his first season. And it still didn’t mean shite for the team
It’s a useless position to invest anything in

Yep. Wasting a top pick on a RB is a terrible move, does not matter if it’s Barry sanders.

The "RBs aren't as valuable as we once thought" argument, which is a good one, has swung too far in the other direction.
You get 5 years of control of a guy who is probably going to be one of the best at his position immediately and be in his prime during that time, then you can tag him or let him walk.
The arguments against RBs in the first also don't account for the fact that RBs are just easier to scout. When looking at a pick what is the value of a guy you're 80-90% sure will hit (Robinson) vs lets say a guy you might be 50%, maybe 60% on like Christian Gonzalez? Or even Carter who is otherwordly good but a PoS off the field and apparently lazy (doesn't seem that smart either but I'm not gonna definitively say that based off just his draft interview)

You can get the exact same production out of two mid round RBs as you'd get out of Robinson. We saw the Falcons do it with Freeman and Coleman. It's the most easily replaceable position on the field.
The Falcons draft like a 12 year old playing Madden.

^This. High hit rate and the Falcons will have a top five running back in the league for the next half decade. Bijan is elite. The mistake of most teams is expecting the production to continue (Dallas, for instance). Running backs have been so overrated for so long that they're underrated.

The Falcons had a top tier OL at the time as well as a great passing game that opened up the run. What exactly has Saquon had in new york? After OBJ left I don't think the Giants have had a receiver that would even be a WR2 on any other team in the NFL and they had a bad OL, bad coach, and mediocre to bad QB

Chris Johnson (titans old RB) said Bijan will have an AP type impact

It meant plenty this season. They don't make the playoff and don't win the playoff games they did without Barkley. After 5 years he gets franchised. The same for Josh Jacobs in Las Vegas. Teams don't franchise tag useless positions.
Derrick Henry laughs at your disdain for the position.
