Greetings...Will be headed to New Orleans with my family in August. I am looking at a couple of VRBO options. The first is in the Garden District and 2nd is in Broadmoor? I will have a car. Which one would be safer and closer to activities?

Its been 30yrs since I have been to N.O. I Know its dangerous and gross from reading OT but would like to know some good food and tourist places to go. As I mentioned, I do have a car but would probably like to walk as much as possible. We do not party so not planning on being out late. Thanks for your help!

Stay in historic Downtown Gretna would be fun. There’s plenty to do on the bestbank.

....draft up your obituary. Your funeral director will need it. Seriously.

Get a hotel in the French Quarter. Go pick out a few places to eat and walk around the Riverwalk/Jax brewery area. Make plans to then eat at all the famous spots like Court of 2 sisters, Brennnans, etc. Get back in the hotel by 8pm and restrict your late night activities to the hotel bar past then.

If you do these things every day/night, even then I predict you’ll leave saying “Holy fricking shite!” And then never come back.

But have fun. Everyone deserves a chance to come to New Orleans. Then leave with a sour taste in your mouth. The NO from 30 years ago left town about 20 years ago.

Good luck and don’t die.

Don’t park on the street unless you want your window broken. Only use a garage.

Get affairs in order. Update will. Make sure life insurance is paid up to date. Get a medical bracket that has blood type and allergies.

City Council just passed new laws to crack down hard on short-term rentals, especially in residential neighborhoods. The new rules take effect July 1. I wouldn't book any stay after June in an VRBO/Airbnb unless its in a commercial building and/or downtown. Even if the unit is "legal" now it might not be this summer.

Garden District …. Broadmoor

Not enough information in either case. Some areas are safer and nicer than others for both locations.

Is the Broadmoor location East or West of Napoleon? North or South of Fountainbleau?

Garden District is harder to blockify. Generally you want south of St. Charles, north of Magazine, and west of Jackson.

Make sure you get a good bullet-proof vest (bonus points if it's stab-proof as well).

Get a tattoo of your name, SSN and home address on your inner bicep so there's no question in ID'ing you.

Steal a car before you go there, drive THAT instead of your own vehicle. When it gets broken into, you've literally lost nothing.

Godspeed.
