Three major utility companies in California are looking to restructure customer billing, and part of that means customers could be charged based on how much money they make.
Sure, why not? Charging people based on what they use, rather than the tier they occupy in the social justice human pyramid is too capitalist anyway.
Southern California Edison, Pacific Gas & Electric and San Diego Gas & Electric filed a joint proposal this week for a flat-rate charge based on income. The income-based bill proposal is part of the companies’ compliance with legislation passed by the California state government last year requiring these types of plans for utilities.
What’s next, a proposal for supermarkets that can charge you based on your income for bread and eggs?

You subject line is misleading. The power company is complying with the Commie State Government. They want people to believe it's the power companies enacting this so they can be blamed instead of the real culprits.

The energy companies didn't just decide to do this on their own. They are being forced to do so by the commie CA legislative branch.
It just baffles me that the people in CA are for this and have allowed this type of legislation to be passed AND MORE IMPORTANTLY that it is actually legal.

Undoubtedly there are Republicans there who didn’t push back hard enough… and since California is a big state, some will get on the national scene.
Like LA has a Democrat governor that couldn’t win many other places, CA will have to have Republicans that likewise would be laughed out of most Southern states

Newsom is trying to figure out how CA can pass the expense of reparations to the federal government (aka taxpayers). It will be masked as “equity initiatives” in his campaign if he decides to run for President.

I think it was the state asking the power companies to submit new pricing models in line with income, not the power companies themselves. So yeah they will complain because revenue will drop and people and companies that can pay will leave. That's typically the cycle of communism.
