He has given up four home runs in his last 6 innings pitched, at one point had walked 8 in a row, and his velocity is way down. His slider is no longer the devastating pitch it once was either.

The guy was an elite starter for many years, but it’s time to move on.

Career trajectories like this just remind me how impressive Verlander is at his age and what he’s accomplished recently. Scherzer too

Sale was a fricking stud at his peak. Wonder if he’d have any value out of the pen (or if he’d even be willing)

Meh he's been injured a lot lately and hopefully pitches himself back into shape.

Probably bad juju from cutting up that jersey that one time.

At what point is that no longer possible?

He's pitched 200 innings in 4 years. He's probably just fully done

The Red Sox giving Sale a massive extension when they already knew he was hurt and letting Betts go for peanuts was an all time terrible move in the history of sports.

He’s a big team first guy so he would likely do whatever he’s asked. The problem is right now the Redsox don’t have anyone capable of stepping into his starter role except for possibly Brayan Bello, but he’s currently rehabbing.

Said every Redsox fan everywhere since 2019. It’s just not going to happen at this point

Hard to get by at 91-92 in MLB today unless you have great secondary stuff/command/spin profile

Unfortunately he’s also struggling with command. He used to be able to get away with missing on his fastball because he was sitting at 97-99 and then would hit you with that big slider, but now he’s missing at 91-93.

Same thing happened to Johan Santana and Tim Lincecum towards the end of their career.

Lincecum wasn't long for the league with his delivery style.

The Sox have made some horrendous moves since the last title. I never understand acting like a small market team when your the Red Sox

Prediction: you’re going to eat those words.

Sure he’s rusty on his control. But check out his K/9. He’s got salvageable skills.

His Cy Young days are over, but he’s still got what it takes to be a starter.

And they still haven't recovered.

Chaim Bloom is a Tampa double agent. That’s the only explanation that makes sense.
