An important part of manhood has always been about having the competence to be effective in the world — having the breadth of skills, the savoir-faire, to handle any situation you find yourself in. With that in mind, each Sunday we’ll be republishing one of the illustrated guides from our archives, so you can hone your manly know-how week by week.

Of all the ninjas skills, being able to walk silently through the night is arguably the most useful for the modern man. Even if you don’t need to call upon it to stealthily assassinate your archenemy, it will allow to check on your sleeping children without waking them or steal cookies from a coworker.

This used to also be called "The Groucho Marx Walk" and was how they taught us to shoot on the move in my prior life.

We worked on this shite religously until someone one day said: "That bullet travels at 2,300 feet per second so why don't we just stop and shoot and then start moving again? It isn't as if taking two steps closer to the target while moving is helping the bullet get there sooner."

Another tip: traverse wooden stairs by stepping on the outer sides of the steps rather than the middle - less likely to make creaking noise.

I’m wearing those exact Ninja clothes at work today, except forest green color, for obvious reasons.

All fine and good unless they have installed nightingale planks on the stairs. They were invented to prevent ninjas from sneaking around.

my buddy at work, when we were all in the office, stuck a paper sign on the wall that said Ninja Exit with an arrow pointing up to a missing ceiling tile.

the facilities guy did not find it amusing.
