Going to the Greek Isles late August/early September.

Definitely going to Santorini just to do it, definitely not going to Mykonos. Looking to stay in the Cyclades for the duration of the trip and have about 8ish days. Flying right to Santorini and then out of Athens at the end (so one night in Athens).

We are trying to decide on two other islands, one for 2 days and another for 3.

The Islands we are considering currently are Paros (likely a lock), Naxos, Milos, and Sifnos. My wife is currently high on Sifnos and I prefer Naxos, we both like the idea of Milos as our 2nd option behind our favorites.

If anyone has any experience with other Cycladic Isles (and it doesn't have to be the ones mentioned!), please let me know.

We are not considering Crete, or non-Cycladic Isles like Rhodes for this trip.

No experience here, but we are making this trip in May.

Like you we had Santorini and Athens nailed down. We decided on Naxos for our other island. Seems more laid back and peaceful with plenty of beaches.

We are flying into Santorini and doing 3 nights in each (Santorini, Naxos, Athens)

Don't have experience with any of the others, but we definitely preferred staying in Oia over Thira on Santorini. Smaller and away from the cruise ship docks but still had great views and food. Should be a fun trip!

Very jealous. I just looked hard at all of those islands when planning my daughter's honeymoon this summer, but they ended up with 5 nights Crete, 1 night Santorini, and 3 nights Athens.

I’m going the 1st of June. Splitting our time between Santorini and Naxos. Will report back after our trip. Watch a few YouTube vids is my only advice for now. . I’ve made most of my traveling decisions from this boards advice and YouTube videos.

My experience is different islands, but I have some Google Maps pins for Folegandros, Paros, and Ios that look interesting.

Depending on timings perhaps some stopovers on way.

We did 9 days in the Cyclades last summer. We did Santorini, Naxos, and Paros.

Originally wanted to do Naxos and Milos but the logistics of it made Paros the easier island. Naxos and Paros were great. Awesome food and beautiful beaches\water

We spent about ten days island hopping. Naxos was probably our favorite. Santorini was fun renting an atv and driving all over the island (also dangerous as hell).

Athens was our favorite city, though. Gets a lot of hate on here, but we had a fantastic time in athens

Crete is massive and has the best beaches. Also hiking Samaria gorge is a must.

To OP I did Paros..amazing island but you’ll likely want to rent a car to get around.

We spent ~5 nights on crete and stayed on both sides of the island. It was our least favorite stay of the trip. We still had fun, don't get me wrong, but the other islands were wayyyy better.

Naxos is my number 1 but I am kind of letting my wife run this show as it is "her" trip.

She seems to be totally dismissing it and its currently Santorini - Milos - Paros.

I have given her the requisite information regarding the greater difficulty of getting to Milos and that Naxos and some other islands get far more ferries, but she still prefers Milos.

I am surprised that Milos isn't getting far far more ferries than it does, given the popularity explosion it has had in the past 6-7 years.

A lot of people think in the next 20 years Milos will get Santorini-ish in terms of crowds.

+1 for Naxos. Had a great time - stayed in the Agios Prokopios area. Can walk to anything you need - beach, bars, restaurants, laundry, including car/scooter/4 wheeler rental if you want to get out and do more.

Generally speaking, we work together on trips, she likes to find flights and so on and work on itineraries, I am better at logistics, restaurants, that sort of thing.

We have a trip approaching elsewhere that is definitely more "me" than her, and I have pretty much planned everything.

Greece is her dream trip so I am trying to not steamroll her and let her have the trip she wants. I am giving input but not being overly aggressive with it.

Not if it's the first part of a honeymoon, in a beach resort. But in any case: a day hiking Samaria Gorge, a day seeing and enjoying Rhythmno, a day seeing the Palace of Knossos and the museum in Heraklion -- that's three full days. There are plenty of other things to do on their fourth day, but I am guessing that they will want their first day to just relax and enjoy their resort.

I believe we are locked in to Santorini-Milos-Paros.

Just need to find accommodations. We have some good options in Milos and Paros, but there is a wealth of debate on Santorini.

To stay in Oia or not to stay in Oia? etc

It's the Touristy vs Authentic debate. Sometimes, places are more touristy for good reason, and sometimes not.

We stayed in Fira (Thera/firastefani) It’s in the middle. Still amazing views of volcano. Also the main tour bus hub is there. You can get anywhere in the island for 1.50 as long as you take the buses (they are nice)

DO NOT take a taxi. They are expensive as shite.

Oia is really just something you can hit up for an early dinner one night. Take a picture with the little white building with blue roof and get a sunset dinner.

Not much up there. Besides shopping and eating. All the cool beaches, historical sites, hiking are in the other sides of the island.

Also I agree with the poster above. Athens is actually a very cool city with lots to see. I don’t get all the hate. And by hate I mean most people say you should stay there the least amount of time as possible.
