I don’t understand how the same withholdings that get me a refund on federal apparently end up with me owing on state? I usually owe a little but this year is higher than it’s ever been for me.

Haven’t paid state income taxes since moving to Florida years ago.

The state no longer gives you credit for federal taxes paid. My tax guy explained it this year. You no longer get to deduct that from your income like years past.

At least I can rest assured knowing that my increased taxes will certainly help improve our already stellar traffic infrastructure, public schools, and common spaces.

Wow! This is great! We get so much bang for the buck from our Louisiana state taxes that I’m HAPPY to pay them…….HAPPPY I TELL YOU!

How do you think we ended up with a “surplus”? Government doesn’t produce or manufacture a fricking thing yet it gains revenues. Thanks to you!

If Louisiana has a surplus it should be returned to the taxpayers. And only the taxpayers. Not every shithead citizen cause they’re not all paying confiscatory taxes like the rest of us.

Does it really matter? They are getting the money from somewhere. I bet your property taxes are higher than most.

Going out on limb here that you live in Texas. Compare property taxes in states with no income tax vs. those that have one.

The government is going to get their money one way or another.

Compare your 2021 and 2022 state withholding. I thought the elimination of the federal income tax deduction was the cause of our refund being less, but my husband's employer withheld a lot less. Our actual state tax obligation went down.

We get so much in return for these taxes though. We may end up garnering "second world" status soon, if we are lucky!

Owed for the first time ever this year. At least it's going to good use to help crime reduction or our excellent school ratings or fantastic and smooth public roads

Ooh wait

My property taxes went up 11k when I moved to texas (also bought a much more valuable house)

No state income taxes put about 19k back in my pocket.

I think I'm doing alright.

And that's not even counting the additional "tax" louisiana residents enjoy in the form of astronomical insurance rates. My monthly escrow payment is only a few hundred more than it was in LA despite the high property taxes.

Right. Government isn’t free in any state. Best you can hope for is to pay a little less and get some return for your money.

Just know that when you drive around, you notice how well the money is spent. It's a great feeling
