Just finished Clerks 3 (spoilers welcome, but none really in the OP)

So I never knew this movie existed until a few days ago when I saw it on one of the movie channels. So I set it to record the next day and watched it last night and tonight.
It seems like it wouldn’t be that good, but it’s actually pretty damn good. I found myself really liking it a lot. In a weird way, it feels partially lazy since the majority of the movie is just callbacks to the original movie. But it makes sense within the story (since it’s for Randal’s movie). But it’s shot in a very similar style to the original so it has sort of the same feel to it. And while it seems like it would be sort of lame, it just sort of works. And the callbacks were actually great, and seeing all the same actors was pretty cool.
It’s not overly funny but I definitely chuckled throughout. And it’s actually a pretty sweet (emotion-wise) and endearing movie. The ending surprised me a little bit, but it makes sense why they did what they did.
And stay for the second half of the credits. Kevin Smith sort of rants about the impetus for the original Clerks. As annoying as KS is sometimes, it’s actually cool to hear him talking about it.
The worst part (aside from the Silent Bob character overacting, but I guess that’s the character) was that it tried a little too hard at times. But all in all those parts weren’t too bad or too frequent. And for the most part, it hits. And the nostalgia his very hard. If you liked either of the Clerks movies, but especially the original, you should give it a shot….I suspect you’ll like it a lot.

Do they ever go arse to mouth?

Not sure if I’ve ever seen Clerks. I’ve seen Mall Rats, and Jay and Silent Bob but not the other Jay and Silent Bob movies.

I caught it about 30 mins in and watched it. I agree it’s pretty good. KS always looks funny to me now that he lost so much weight. And I did catch his comments in credits. Cool to learn where it all came from.

All his films look like that.

I can still quote Mallrats. GOAT for me

I finally saw Mallrats about a year or two ago. I liked it, but it's nowhere near the quality of Clerks IMO.
I'd give Clerks a shot. It's pretty great.

No, they don't. Hell, I've only seen a few KS movies but Clerks 2, Tusk, and Zack and Miri don't look at all like Clerks visually.

It was an entertaining airplane movie full of member berries, but that's about it.
Outside of that, it is another recent Smith attempt to give Jason Mewes a paycheck to help him in recovery while giving his untalented daughter another minor acting credit.

I really did not like this movie at all.
Everything you said “seems like it would be sort of lame” didn’t work at all for me. I thought all of it was incredibly lame. Also the emotional part you referenced, I did not turn on clerks 3 to see Randall and Dante cry so much. And I get why Kevin Smith put that in there. It’s just not what I expected or wanted to see

I get that, and it won't be for everybody. But it's a movie about characters who have all aged 30 years (with 30 years of baggage), so it at least makes sense as to why they were emotional.
And it's not like they aren't still funny assholes to each other. That kind of shite is still there.
Like I said my biggest gripe was way too much Kevin Smith/Silent Bob hamming it up.

It was absolutely fantastic, nostalgically speaking, given my expectations, which weren't high, based on the reboot.
It's a far cry from my favorite, but it worked. I really wish Elias was in more stuff, but I would just want him to play that one character. His transition was probably my favorite part.

I watched it last night. Thankful I read that the movies was actually not a comedy.
Once I realized it was kind of more serious, it actually turned out to be a pretty good movie
