Pitchers should hit at all levels

Down with the universal DH

I don't know if Skenes hitting will or should happen.
But we do need a RH bat to step up. Frey or Travinski need to start getting some ABs if we aren't going to use Skenes. And Kling obviously needs to get back on track

Skenes is 100% a better hitter than everyone in the lineup minus 2 guys

There’s an argument Dugas is equally as good as well

But it stops there

MLB Pipeline wrote Skenes would be a top 3 round pick strictly as a first baseman (RH, RH at that). and if you know anything about scouting, RH/RH 1B don’t go that high unless the bat is extremely thought of.

But people will throw out Armageddon scenarios of Skenes getting hurt and it’s not worth it. Skenes is an athlete, let him go be an athlete and stop holding this team back.

How good of a hitter do you think he is? He batted 312 last season with 13 HRs.

In 100 less ABs than your typical hitter due to his pitching responsibilities; including an OBP north of 400 and a slugging percentage north of 600 … uhhh I think Paul Skenes is a very good hitter.

That’s good for about 6th in our lineup.

I read he took a pitch to his groin. Needed surgery.
This is what I read it was as well

The risk reward isn’t worth it if he bats. He is by far our best pitcher. If he gets hurt and can’t pitch that hurts us way worse than not letting him hit.

That’s what people said last week before Jones went off for 7 RBI in Game 2.

Not sure how you can justify that statement when he was raking in non conference play and is batting.352 after 4 games in SEC play.

The upside of Skenes being marginally or overwhelming better at the plate than anyone at the bottom half of the lineup is far outweighed by the risk of losing a top 3 pitcher in the country to some freak mishap in the batter’s box or on the base paths. He should not and will not see an at bat during the regular season.

Altuve broke his thumb from a HBP, i'd rather our pitchers throw the ball rather than thrown at

Jones looks absolutely confused. You could throw that guy nothing but breaking balls that bounce before home plate and he would swing at it.

Grant Taylor tore his UCL pitching
Javon Coleman tore his UCL pitching
Jaden Hill tore his UCL pitching

It’s fricking sports. Injuries happen.

That’s ridiculous. 100%? Everything Skenes did was against Air Force’s schedule. That’s like halfway between our preconference slate and our SEC slate.

He’s a sophomore, so MAYBE he’s better, but .312 against that competition implies well below .300 against the SEC.

That word MAYBE is in all caps to highlight the difference between this and your 100%.

Skenes has a career 1100 OPS in two seasons

He’s better than most of LSU’s current hitters

You know what all these injuries have in common?
They all got injured playing their most important role on the team.

Ok

I’m not arguing Skenes’ most important role
