So which prospects in the top 10 can shoot or rim protect?

Because if they can’t do one or the other, we can’t take them.
There’s zero room on the roster for another non shooter.
Gradey Dick can shoot. Who else?

Got an ant bite on my sack once doing that.

Grassy Dick is who I would be targeting if we fall in the 7-10 range.
If we hit the lottery and move into top 4, I think you take Wem, Scoot, or Brandon Miller.
Yes Scoot struggled to shoot at a high percentage but his release is solid and he has superstar potential. You can use him like we could have used Garland before we passed up on him, which is off the bench as a sixth man as he develops. Once he gets to the level you have to start him, you move off a guy like CJ and pair him with a shooter/defender. Maybe Trey.

If we have a top 10 (well, 3-10) pick it’s getting traded.
This disastrous season has to have some peoples heads on the chopping block and they aren’t going to rely on developing another rookie.
There are going to be major changes and multiple picks are getting traded.

Brandon Miller and Gradey Dick are probably the 2 best shooters in the lottery. Miller will likely be out of range for where we draft. I think Dick is more of a late lottery guy so he would probably fit more in our projected range.
A guy I think is probably a good bet for us is Keyonte George. He’s a former 5 star freshman who is shooting a bit under 35% from 3 at Baylor, which isn’t amazing, but it’s on high volume and higher shot difficultly than some of these other prospects because Baylor gives their guards a lot of freedom in the pick and roll to pull up from anywhere. I don’t have his catch and shoot numbers handy, but I think his 3 pt % could get to a solid 37% with better shot selection in the pros, AND he would give us some of the shot creation we need as a secondary option off the bench.

Then I hope Griff is fired on the spot before that happens.
You don’t give up cost controlled top 10 picks on a near luxury tax team that just missed the playoffs.
If you are gonna trade a pick in that range it better be for a legitimate superstar and long term part of your core. And in this draft, you aren’t getting that with 4-10.
Draft well and use the asset wisely

I like Kyle Filipowski. Derek Lively has elite shot blocking abilities but that’s about it, that would still help this team

Sure but they are unlikely to do that.
It’s desperation time.
If they fail next year, the Zion era is over, Griffin and Langdon are gone, as is WIllie Green.
Multiple picks and players are getting traded. I would say no player except Zion is safe.

This is the concerning thing. Griff isn't going to have the Pelicans long term interests in mind. He'll be looking to save his own arse.

Yeah, unless the pick is top 4 and too good to trade, at a minimum it’s getting bundled with JV to get a better center.

Do any of us really want to see them try to solve the center problem by drafting another young big who even if he does work out probably won’t be useful for 2-3 years?
The Pels need to make changes now. If the season had not had the plot twist of us sucking and the Lakers making the play in, we still would be looking to upgrade JV with the “Lakers Pick” and people would be a lot less attached to it.

What centers would even be available?
Porzingis
Capela
Vucevik
Turner
Are any of those really needle movers?
Would a deal of Ingram straight up for Ayton be worth considering?
Not sure how Ingram fits with KD and it leaves the Suns with a giant hole but they’d get off Ayton and his contract.
Porzingis I guess fits but he’s fragile as shite too.
Turner but would Indiana want to trade him?

No, they wouldn’t
That’s why you don’t give up a top 10 pick for a marginal improvement that will create cap issues in a season or two.
I feel like every year we have a contingency of posters advocating the old Demps model of trading any top ten pick for non-all star players as if that will turn an oft-injured non contender into one.
It won’t.
This team needs to draft well and make smart moves in FA to move out guys that don’t fit and bring in role players that do.
CJ/BI/Zion are your core at least through the next season and the goal should be drafting a future starter or guy you can develop or sell and put a team around the core that compliments them as opposed to what we have now, which is a bunch of guys that are at odds with what our best players are best at.
Using a top 10 pick to get off bad contracts would be absolutely fricking criminal, and Griff should be fired before allowed to go through with it.

What
He hasn’t sold out the future at all unlike Demps. He’s routinely gotten future picks down the line.
If anything he’s not be concerned about the present enough.

Wouldn’t matter anyways, green is going to rot him on the bench.

We've recycled capital on guys like Favors, Adams, Val, etc. to win now.
shite he tried to sign near-40 Kyle Lowry before last year.
