So I’ve been applying to schools for my MBA. Got it down to Rice and UT.

Well I’m interviewing and Rice asked me 3 different ways in the interview what DEI means to me. Very off putting.

UT didn't ask one question about it.

Guess where I’m going if I get in?

The DEI shite is out of hand.

Rice and many private schools are pushing this shite too far. I have had to deal with it myself on several levels as an academic recently and it is nuts at private universities.

UT as a governmental institution is no longer allowed to include DEI for any hiring/ admissions per Abbott’s recent decree, so that likely had a big part in it.

Some schools with a checkered history with regards to Race, like Rice, are trying so hard to shed that history by being extreme. They have not learned that it will backfire on them in the long run, and in many cases already has.

The problem is that you denigrate the minorities you are trying to bring in by clearly demonstrating that they are getting looked at based on their race. How can they be certain you actually find them the best candidate and not simply trying to fill a spot with a URM candidate.

Good luck to you. Both are honestly great schools despite this nonsense.

I hope you're doing the UT EMBA based out of Houston, and not moving to Austin for the on campus program. Cause you ain't seen nothing yet.

If the UT is U of Texas in Austin they might not ask about it but you will be living deep in it if you go there.

UT (assuming Texas FT program) is much better anyway. My wife had her MBA from there and the network is now global. The Rice network is good for sure, but nowhere near as vast as McCombs.
