I filed my 2020 taxes in October 2021.
Both federal and state (LA) were "accepted" same-day.

I got the state refund very quickly (within a week or two).
I still haven't received the federal return, and trying to get info from irs.gov or their app simply tells me that it hasn't been processed yet.

Any suggestions on what to do next?
Hopefully I can just claim the refund as a deduction on my 2022 taxes...?

Are you referring to a bailout of SVB and its customers...?

We got our tiny refund in 8 days. I was shocked.

Haven't seen anything from the state which we surprisingly got a refund this year. Kids and paying for college help us out come tax time.

It is the tyrannical governments money. They might let you have some at some date of their choosing.

I suggest calling a million times until you finally get put on hold.

Then wait 4 hours on hold to talk to someone.

Unfortunately the best way to get an answer.

My firm actually had a file that was successfully transmitted to the IRS, but fell into a very specific period of time that coincided with the IRS shutting down processing returns due to Covid. Once they went back to work, the IRS said they accidentally forgot to process this batch of refunds. The client has been waiting for two years for their refund.

Call the IRS and see if they can tell if your eFiled return fell into this same batch. They need to process immediately AND pay you interest, which they will do.

Good luck man.

Same thing happened with my 2020 taxes. Just received my refund last week. Supposedly there was some form that was not turned In, but was assured by my CPA that it was. I had to resubmit the form and waited another 7 months with no response. I finally got thru to someone at the IRS and said it would be 9 more weeks before I hear a response. Then out of the blue, my refund appeared. Got lucky I suppose..

I’ll note that every number I’ve found has had me go through an automated menu (“Press 1 for English” etc). Ends with thanking me for calling, before hanging up on me.

Haven’t gotten to talk to anyone yet.

Any ideas on how to make that happen?

My Dad is still waiting on his 2019 refund. After multiple letters back and forth with the IRS, they told him they never received the return. He filed by mail, have to refile.

You sound like you’re in the right place.

Unfortunately that’s just how it is. They haven’t been answering the phones pretty much since COVID. Just have to call at the right time. Try calling right when they open.

This is the correct answer OP. Best time to call them is when they open.

The same thing happened to me. Waited over a year with no explanation other than it is delayed. Contacted taxpayer advocate services and refund was magically released in a week.
