Say what?!?!
What else can prove that NATO is responsible for no wars happening in Europe since 1945?

The US has kept war out of Europe, including various dustups like Bosnia that Europe could not handle on their own, NOT NATO.
I say again, why add two more stepchildren to our financial burden.
We should have gotten out of NATO decades ago, its a huge drain.
And no Sweden and Finland dont add any value. And if you consider them of value because of geography, then by all means lets have Ukraine join, and send your sons and daughters to the ensuing party.
NATO was supposed to defend a weakened Europe against Russia, they are now a 70 year old still living with their parents, let them handle their business.

Why YES, YES I can! It was about 1.45% of GDP in 2022, the highest in at least a decade.
Thanks.
Now, can you tell me whether 1.45% is more, less, or equal to the NATO requirement of 2%?

IF you will bother to read the ENTIRE article, you will note that Sweden is gradually increasing its defense spending while NOT YET being a member of NATO. So they are negotiating in good faith and showing a good faith effort to meet their obligations.
Comprende?!?!
Of course, if you choose to split hairs....
Comprende?!?!

Do you know if Germany is in NATO? If so, for how long? And what % of their GDP are they spending on military?

It's fairly clear to me that one of us needs a little history and geography review, and it isn't me.
Can you tell me if Germany = Sweden?!?!
So what's your point really, you're making predictions about oranges based on apples?![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/Iconrolleyes.gif)

So, they must have a sizable military, right?

With the Russian threat and all?
Finnish military spending, unlike most of Europe, is more than 2% of their GDP. Precisely because Russia is a threat.
Dumbass.

Conservative,
I do know my history NATO was set up to keep USSR from expanding into Europe after WW2. The countries were supposed to spend 2% of their GDP for defense, most havent, never have, and have even openly mocked the US. While they spend the money saved on themselves.
Then they have the audacity to start inviting in everyone.
Its akin to you doing a favor and inviting some less fortunate individual to your home, they show up with nothing and eat you out of house and home.....and call every friend they can think of to come over and join the party. All the while they obtained great jobs, still refused to bring anything to the party, and leave you to clean up every mess.

Germany is currently at an abismal 1.15 percent I believe. However thinks to the war in Ukraine they are doubling that and proposing even more. In fact last time I looked 11 nato nations plus Sweden and Finland have passed large defense increases.

More drop-dead beautiful blondes?

I refer you to what Evolved Simian just posted.
And, while we're at it, why not pull some or all of the UN funds and allocate them to NATO?!?! Hmmmm.....

Get back to me when they pay their arrears which is probably well north of a trillion bucks.
And it took Trump shaming them and Putin getting fed up of their nonsense to pony up. Some allies we have there.
Remember that same Germany laughing at Trump during the UN meeting regarding this same issue?

Finland whooped Russian arse a couple times.

The benefit is more countries under one umbrella that will submit to the same group think. Bigger the entity, harder to defeat.

You're going off topic here!

Problem isn’t NATO. It’s the member nations that basically have zero military because the don’t live up to the agreement.
In other words, the US is the reason Europe has been free from invasion since WW2.
Finland and Sweden accomplishes nothing.
Posted on 3/9/23 at 6:02 pm to conservativewifeymom
NATO adhering to the agreement would avoid bloodshed. Don't cower ...go shed your own blood for your worthy cause

NATO doesn't enforce its membership requirements.
That's your freebie. Next time go ask any 7 year old what I'm talking about if you can't keep up.
