Most Beautiful Continent

What’s your pick?
Posted on 3/3/23 at 3:03 pm to Globetrotter747
North America and it's not even close.
Posted on 3/3/23 at 3:41 pm to Globetrotter747
I’m not sure how you would begin to answer that question. Speaking of the most beautiful places or the overall beauty of every place?
The shear size of Asia allows for a shite ton of amazing pics but have tons of areas that would not be considered appealing.

I’ll play along since I enjoy these type of threads on the Travel Board. The majority of threads are asking for recs which is very valuable.
But I hope for more threads like this discussing the worlds best places or articles detailing hidden gems. I wish for more inspiration.
Hard to not nominate North America. I’m more familiar as you would expect. I assume you speaking of geography and not cities. Urban areas are another topic.
1. The beaches of Caribbean and Hawaii are elite
2. The mountains of Canada and Alaska are impressive
3. The Grand Canyon is beyond reproach
4. Admittedly lacking on jungle/rainforest compared to other continents
5. Volcanic opportunities are worth the trek
6. Water features exist but not elite. Grand lakes and falls are available but better elsewhere
7. The beauty of the deserts out west feel like God’s paintings
8. And Yellowstone adds a star to the total count
9. Throw in some epic caves and swamp land and you have a nice mix
That being said, I could make a similar argument for South America. Plus having the GOAT jungle.
OP, what is your opinion?

Africa has an incredible amount of and diversity in natural beauty as well.

Not sure I would count Hawaii as North America, it’s not on the continent, more like pacific islands

Ruby Falls would like a word with you

Hard call. I have been to some part of all of them except Antarctica.
The thing about North America is the western half is vastly more scenic. Draw me a line from Big Bend NP to Denver to Edmonton and up the BC and YT borders and give me everything on or west of it and I will debate all comers that there’s not a more beautiful slice of Earth of comparable size anywhere else.
The eastern half of NA is pretty but little of it is amazing. Overall, I might still take NA just because of its diverse beauty.

Ruby falls is fantastic. But we are talking about the worlds best. Iguazu and Victoria are a cut above

Wouldn’t the Caribbean beaches be part of the eastern half of NA? And Niagara

I agree that is an amazing part of the earth. But you are cutting NA short if you do that. You lose all of Central America if you do that.
Belize
Guatemala
Costa Rica
El Salvador
You can’t get any of that if you keep your line drawn as you stated. Not to mention the Caribbean beaches

Europe, from the Greek Isles to the Alps to Scotland to Lapland, is hard to beat because it's all relatively close together.

I would still argue that - per square mile - North America’s dramatic beauty is far more concentrated in the west.
I’m saying this in the sense that 10 amazing features in a 100 square mile area > 12 amazing features in a 200 square mile area.
There’s little “dead weight” in the west when it comes to scenery. There’s a fair amount of it in the east. The east has some great features, but the west is far better.

Wut, you are simply choosing exactly what you like. There's hundreds of thousands of square miles of desert and scrub brush country that are by no means pretty.
To answer though, the issue is what civilization lives there and how the area currently appears IMO. There are beautiful areas in 3rd world countries that would potentially be a lot better if completely undeveloped or another civilization lived there. At the same time, I think there's places like parts of Italy that have amazing civilization that would add to their value.
I'm not sure how you even compare a continent to a continent unless you took the absolute best of each and only compared that. But what if one continent had 100x the beach but it wasn't quite as nice as a very small beautiful beach somewhere else?

The deserts of Arizona, Utah, Nevada, and California are quite pretty to drive.

It's close, but probably Asia.

Alaska, by itself is probably in contention. Not just the mountains. The lakes, the glaciers, the coastline, the forests, the northern lights, and the overall lack of intrusion by man make it absolutely gorgeous. When you drive up there, you just want to stop and get out of your car and take pictures every 5 minutes.

I believe Iceland is the same. Natural beauty everywhere.

North America would be very hard to beat. Asia might give it a run for its money but for diversity, I like the rocks I am on.
