It's a damn shame that the ATF decided to burn innocent children to death instead of accepting Koresh's and the local sheriff's invitation to come to Mt. Carmel and inspect their firearm inventory months prior to obtaining a search warrant.

The ATF absolutely could have handled that raid so much better. Arrest Koresh in town and then show up with a pair of black and whites to execute a search warrant of the compound. Don’t move in with your tactical teams until an actual threat exists.
However, they were looking to make a major splash with the raid on Mt. Carmel. It’s why they tipped off the media. They wanted images of Koresh being led out in handcuffs and men in tactical gear standing triumphantly over the illegal weapons.

They mishandled the frick out of Waco. But Koresh and his crew also share some blame too. It sucks that most of the bullshite could’ve been avoided and innocent people didn’t have to die, agents included. I don’t have a problem with them acknowledging their fallen agents though, regardless of how mishandled the situation was.

Which is hilarious because there was no evidence of any "illegal weapons" on the premises.
None of the receivers they were in possession of were illegally obtained or modified.
