It’s pretty fascinating to watch. Duterte also left office with high approval rating almost undoubtedly on the back of driving down crime.
The situation in El Salvador reminds me somewhat of what Dick Cheney said in defense of the patriot act and government surveillance- basically it is paramount that we secure the nation at this time because if we do not, and there is another, larger attack, the people of the United States will voluntarily hand over far more of their civil liberties in the name of security than we are taking now. At a certain point crime is so dire people will turn over anything to eradicate it.
Will be interesting to see where this goes and if El Salvador can keep its democracy/civil liberties while it’s government flexes its muscles to strangle crime. The law has been changed to allow Bukele to run for a consecutive term. Hopefully he doesn’t become a Central American president for life.

If El Salvador keeps this up it has the potential to attract business, grow tourism and become a rich country.

How long until libertarians start being “concerned” about this?
Posted on 2/28/23 at 3:21 pm to TIGERHOLD
Just kill them. They’re going to eventually get out and do this shite all over again.

The leftist want chaos, everyone fighting each other, fighting for their lives.
Divided we fall, united we stand.

Tattoo artists fixing to starve
That's a lot of guards to keep honest
a 40k inmate riot will be a hoot to watch

Nayib Bukele is already receiving complaints from Amnesty International.
This looks brutal by American standards but MS-13 are no cupcakes. This seems like a proportional reaction. The people are sick of the violence and want safety.

Gave them all First Class tickets to NYC. Philly, Chicago, and Los Angeles?

Damn.

There are only 80 metal bunks for every 100 prisoners, and rights groups and observers have criticised the construction as a violation of incarceration standards

Double damn.

They were always going to be enemies anyway.
Looks like they gave up trying to change hearts and minds of gangs.
A 40,000 inmate El Salvador prison must be something to behold.

Murdering thugs aren’t political prisoners

Trump will knock out a deal to send all MS13 hre back there to be disposed of..I mean housed.
I would be ok with us sending money there to help keep this system in place. Don't know the plan with them but it's a good start.
Yes...I'm a fan of the idea of thinking out the prisons herds and would lose a moment of sleep over it.
