That would be my guess too. But they aren't AAU. Only one school in that conference isn't (Nebraska) and they were before they joined. Also, the B1G almost has to add western schools to divy up the travel costs for UCLA/USC. Oregon and Washington are the surest takes there.

While I'm not obviously not privy to background info, I don't think FSU or Clemson would add to the SEC bottom line like any combo of P5 NC/VA schools outside of Wake and Duke. UF/FSU for a shot at Atlanta would be prime TV though.

And before you bring up ND, we both know they're the exception and not the rule.

It wouldn't surprise me if they overlooked the AAU situation or fast tracked them somehow. It's not like Florida State isn't a good school.

College football results over the last 20 years suggest otherwise. There's a reason Ohio State has been the only school outside of the SEC footprint (I'm including Oklahoma in the footprint) with any legitimate chance at a national title since Carroll left USC.

Nah

They’d just be 8 more Northeastern teams in a mediocre G5 conference now

FSU would fit culturally. Not a fan of Clemson but we will prob take them just to prevent Big 10 from taking them

Except y'all took Maryland and Rutgers because of that.

I’ve said it before, the SEC has and needs to drop the “southeastern” precondition, within reason. They have with the additions of Missouri, Oklahoma, and a case can be made for A&M and Texas. We don’t need FSU, NC State, UNC, VT, Virginia, Miami, and so forth. It’ll likely never happen, but if you really, really wanted to make the ultimate statement and solidly yourself as the GOAT, add Notre Dame and Ohio State. Nothing else is needed.

It’s crazy to think that there are no good teams in the NE

As it currently stands, Alford said, Florida State creates about 15% of the revenue for the conference but only gets a return of 7%.

This is where we're headed in college football. How long is Alabama going to tolerate getting the same media rights payout as Vandy? It's all going to move towards the powers saying we generate x revenue for the conference but only get back some lower number.

wonder if they regret joining the ACC over the SEC back in 90.

They would hwve never won any of their National Titles if they had moved into the SEC and Bobby Bowden knew it. He blatantly said it out loud.

They gained semi-blue blood status 20 yrs because of it and earned prestige for its program that you can't buy.

So yes, it was a good move back then, but its not a good move now.

You wouldn’t want a football conference consisting of Alabama, LSU, Texas, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Georgia, Florida, Ohio State, Tennessee, Auburn, Texas A&M?

You do realize that the ACC champ was playing in the Citrus or Gator Bowl when y'all joined, right? And that FSU was the ONLY ACC team to win a major bowl game until the 2013 season?

And that y'all won the ACC multiple times despite finishing with 5 losses?

And?

I think FSU would have been a wagon under Bobby no matter what league they played in

Yeah I'm sure y'all would've won the SEC 9x in a row.

Didn't say that, but FSU would have still been an elite program.

It's not like the Miss schools, Vandy, UK, SC, Ark, UGA and LSU were anything special then. Auburn was up and down and Bama had some struggles post Stallings. UF and Tenn were really the only consistent programs
