We didn't deserve George and his genius. He was the soul of The Beatles and Something is still the greatest love song ever written IMO.

Happy birthday George.

Something..

George was the real reason the Beatles broke up. His emergence as a songwriter made it harder to get your songs on an album. Pre-69 Paul and John had enough album space to get what they wanted on the album. After George started putting out material equal or better than their songs they knew the goose was cooked and album space was shrinking. By 1969 George was the best songwriter in the Beatles.

His fire burned so bright as a songwriter that it didn't last long.

"All Things Must Pass" is still one of the greatest albums ever.

Was George great? Yes

But like Ringo, was he also a bit fortunate to be around John and Paul? Also yes

George was with the band from the beginning. He wasn't like Ringo who just happened to be in the right place at the right time when Best left.

Absolutely love their musical gift and influence on the music world. However, the staunch liberalism they spewed was more hate than love.
We are thankful the individuals collided together in life regardless who benefitted from who.

I try not to make judgments on them, nothing like them had ever happened before. It was a unique thing, with that much talent packed into a small collection of people.
I'm surprised it got as far as it did, without somebody gettin killed by each other.

Great musician.

Loved his Concert for Bangladesh featuring the Stones, Leon Russell, Clapton, Billy Preston, etc.

Correct(Jumpin Jack Flash was a cover by Leon Russell) and I think the highlight was Dylan’s Just Like a Woman

George on Fender Strat, Bob on acoustic, Leon Russell on bass, Ringo on tambourine

...yeah right, because the very first thing that I think of when I think of George Harrisson is flaming liberal! Sheez..
How sad is it that so many people cannot see anything, unless it is filtered first and foremost by their political beliefs. Can you not look at a thing of beauty and simply enjoy the purity of the moment? When your first child was born, did you feel awash in the wonderful moment, or did you just think to yourself " God, I hope he doesn't grow up to be a liberal."
Any liberal leanings George had where probably more in line with things you read in the Bible.. peace, sprituality, goodness and purity.

Funny thing, last year when I got the chance to watch Get Back all the way through, I really felt like John & Paul kinda shite on George. Didn’t really blame him for taking a walk.

Yeah, he was pretty fortunate to have two incredibly talented school friends, and they were all lucky to come of age at the time they did. But he was obviously gifted as well.

Couple of guys I have played with for decades watched it on their own at the same time I did, and came to a completely different conclusion. Namely that George sucked, his guitar playing was barely adequate, and his songs were garbage.

Eye of the beholder and shite, I guess.

I think the Bangladesh highlight was Mr Tamborine Man, which was cut from the fil but not the album. I think they rerecorded some of the vocal but I’m not sure.
