At some point the Saints will need to stop kicking the cap can down the road. It seems clear to that the Super Bowl window has closed. Derek Carr or any free agent is not going to get you there. The answer is to draft a QB. We should just use Taysom at QB and run an offense similar to the Ravens or Eagles. Why get ourselves into more cap hell signing a QB that is mediocre that will keep our record at mediocre so we can be mediocre into oblivian. We can be mediocre with Taysom and he is already under contract. No he is not the QB of the future but neither are the other guys that add to the cap problem. We need a QB or 2 on rookie contracts.

Every team kicks the can, especially if they have had to pay a franchise QB. Tampa is 55M over, like us. There isn't a team that has paid a franchise QB in the last 4 years that has a projected positive cap for 2023.

David is in his mid-40s. Probably cheap.

having taysom as a starting qb would at least be fun. win or lose, i'd tune in to see what he can pull off every week.

still don't think we'd be bad enough to get a top 5 pick, but it would be fun.

Wants to act like he has all the answers for an NFL organization…….

Doesn’t know the name of the top free agent quarterback that’s on the market

Derek Carr is the top free agent. I know who the free agents are. Just used his brother's name by accident ahole.

Good teams kick the can down the road and compete today. Bad teams have millions in dollars in cap space to spend on overpriced FAs and continue to suck.

saints are not a good team. We are mediocre and will be until we get a stud QB. Most stud QBs are drafted in the top 10. There a few who slip into later rounds. IMO we are better off with Taysom until we hit on a rookie. Free agents will only delay it.

Might want to do a little research on that.

David Carr, who was the Houston Texans' first draft pick, retired in 2012. His brother, Derek, could be argued as the top free agent QB.

Back on topic, though - last year we started the offseason $100 million over the cap. This year we started $50 million over the cap. Next year we are projected to start the offseason $0 to $20 over the cap (assuming MT is moved or re-worked). We don't need some drastic roster maneuvering to clean up the cap situation, we're already on our way to it.

Research-
NFL top QBS drafted in top 10
Patrick Mahomes
Joe Burrow
Josh Allen
Justin Hebert
Trvor Lawrence

after 10th pick through 2nd round - Garrapollo, Hurts, Geno Smith, Rodgers, Lamar
After 2nd Prescott, Cousins
Which group of QBs would you want? Give any one of the first group.

5 out of 32. You said most.

Now do how many drafted in the top 10, hell, in the 1st round all together, since 2015 are even with the team that drafted them. It gets worse if you go in to 2010 or so.

Point is QB is a crap shoot. Hell, who was taken before Mahomes? Allen? Hebert? shite, they had people questioning Burrow over Tua. And I don't consider Lawerence a "stud" yet, nor are any of those other guys outside of Hurts and Rodgers (who is washed)...maybe Lamar. Dak and Cousins....give me a break.

We are projected at 0-20 before player contracts are restructured for this year and we add 25-30 million for a QB. Your post proves my point. Not adding a free agent QB this year regardless of his name will get us back where we need to be in 1 year.

Top 10:

Lawerence
Z Wilson
Lance

Burrow
Tua
Hebert

Murray
D Jones

Baker
Darnold
J Allen
Josh Rosen

Trubisky
Mahomes

Goff
Wentz

Winston
Mariota

5 out of 18 since 2015 considered Studs. Not a good track record and definitely not "most".

False. It would take years. And they won't do it. No team does. I proved that in my first post.

Can get under without cutting a single player.

Hate to break to you, but 7+ wins is not a mediocre team. Team has talent and even if they try to tank would get 5+ wins. They are a bad team, but not mediocre

Probably have more busts in the top 10, than studs. Also have more starting QBs in the league drafted outside of the top 10, than we’re draft in the top 10
