Nyx looked pretty bad last night with half empty floats and no name marching groups/bands. Crowds didn't look too big, either.

How long before there is an all out war among the new and emerging krewes (that have attached to other parades) for the parade permit that Nyx currently holds?

Nyx is pretty much dead. Its so dumb, but it is what it is.

It will likely fold and an up and coming krewe will get that spot within the next 2-3 years

the whole thing is stupid. Small krewes piggybacking on bigger ones is so stupid, what's the point of rules if there are so many loopholes, just give every parade that qualifies a permit and pull the ones that suck it up like Nyx

I wanna say JP Morell is looking to revamp the whole system, which is long overdue

There are already more permits than allowed by law, so not sure if the permit would just cease to exist, but the spot open for other krewes to move into.

I was on Magazine yesterday and saw some people setting up. I was telling them I forgot they had parades today and asked which ones. Guy told me Druids and Nyx. So I replied "Nyx, oh yeah that's like one of the biggest ones"(I haven't been to any big parades in years so don't really follow, I just catch one small parade a year to see the kids)
The guy says "Nyx used to be big now they have only 200 members because of their stupid racist captain, everyone will leave when that parade starts we're here for Druids"
Then the lady with him said "it was the all lives matter controversy" which sparked my memory.

Crazy how something so small could have such a reaction.
I still don't get what's wrong with All Lives Matter. Other than they don't.

All the Rex bigwigs were once responsible for the largest mass lynching in US history.

The Krewe of NYX was once the largest women’s krewe in New Orleans. Now membership has dwindled to a mere 240 members.

Supposedly the run time from the first float starting to ending was 35 minutes

Comus/Momus literally stopped parading because they didn't want black people to parade with them, but Comus still meets with Rex at the ball every MG, with the mayor and everyone in attendance

(in one of the weirdest traditions and displays known to man)

There's way too many parades in one area. Back in the day, during the week there was just one parade a night, tonight there's 3. They already had people on St Charles at 6 this morning when I came in to work.

It's really out of hand. They need to go back to just one parade a night, during the week, and alternating the routs.

I thought the bigger controversy, or at least the one that killed membership, was that the founder of the parade essentially stole most of the money riders were paying to ride.

Well, when about half of your krewe is black women, and you don't actually make a legitimate apology, AND you waste krewe money on "meetings" in Cabo, you are going to piss off a lot of people.

Not sure if I can't sense the sarcasm, but BLM the movement =/= BLM the statement.

I was driving around the other day and noticing the krewe flags on houses uptown. I guess I never noticed them before. Rex being pretty common but I saw a few Comus and Momus. Those actually say the name on the flag. The Rex flag is just the symbol on Mardi gras colors.

Yeah I mean you can be arrested for corruption and then still get elected to council.

I guess people just kind of gloss over the Comus/Momus thing, which is wild in this world.

I'd be scared to death to fly that flag
